I have a 1996 Tacoma with a completely dead battery this morning.
I jumped it and it runs fine until I turn it off and the battery is completely dead again. Bad battery or alternator?

I'd second that, sounds like it's a bad battery.

Seems to have completely died out of the blue. Not even a click of the relay after running for about half an hour. Than start right up again with a jump and runs fine

The only way to truly know is by testing the battery. I would expect some symptoms while running if it were the alternator.

    It’s not the alternator.
But it will be if you don’t fix the battery issue.
Alternators are not meant to be run for extended periods at full output.

How do I know it’s not the battery? Because the truck runs with a dead battery.
