Driving home late at night, extremely unusual warm temps for February in Alaska, like 47° out (never in my life has it been this warm this early) at 11pm, so back roads are glare ice super slick. Main roads are pavement so I’m in 2WD, then Going through a neighborhood (again super icy) and when I turned a corner and my truck slipped out hard. Did a 180, abs going crazy but I corrected it and came to a stop still in the road without hitting anything. HERE IS MY QUESTION; once I came to a stop all the dash lights had come on, and when I hit the gas the engine revved a bit but the truck didn’t move at all. I panicked and shut the truck off hoping it would reset and whatever just happened. Turned it back on and no dash lights, put it in 4wd and got home. Is this indicative of some kind of mechanical/electrical issue with the truck, or did it just freak out that bad when it lost control and shut down?

Good save. I did the same thing in 03 with my first gen - 2wd, spun on ice, pass side went up against the side dirt mound and thought there goes my bearings.

Assuming automatic trans? Sounds like it did indeed just freak out, maybe kept the brakes on or pushed itself into neutral to "save itself" with an automatic after too much sensory input. I just got back into an automatic after 30+ years, so not sure if this is possible. Someone with better knowings will probably come along once everybody else wakes up lol

I'd not worry about it too much, stuff is robust. If something / lights didn't recover after your power cycle, or something comes up again soon, then you could investigate. Otherwise keep on... Electronics be electronicky...

Yea should have included that, it is an automatic. Hoping that a sensory overload is all that happened. I had a problem a few years back when it was just over 80k miles, and all of a sudden the transmission started slipping or skipping, wouldn’t hit its highest gear so if I got it up to 55mph it’d be running at 3500+rpm. Turns out the local dumpy mechanic I took it to never checked its tranny fluid and that’s all that was wrong. But that’s the only “problem” I’ve ever had with it. Now it’s up to 110k miles and I’m just hoping there’s nothing going weird on it as it gets older.
