I used to talk mad smack about everyone that stripped their front drain plug about proper sockets, hit it with a hammer, make sure it's fully in, etc, etc. then I still stripped it following all my own advice.

Changing the oil cold helps it come out easier but,
At the end of the day I fully support this message

i got lucky i guess. i was expecting the worst and purchased the replacement plugs. i had no problems getting mine out. i cleaned them prior and used a hex key that had good shoulders. i made sure it was seated all the way and the plugs released quite easily.

I also purchased a back up Lexus plug when I did mine but it came out really well with an Allen socket so I just put the OEM one back in. I’ve still got the Lexus replacement one on my garage shelf if it ever comes out rough in the future though.

    back to bone stock.
I bought a brand new Allen socket when I did mine. no issues.

but the Lexus version is the better option long term, I imagine.

It’s built-in punishment for not changing your gear oil often enough.

Well I just changed my gear oil yesterday for the 2nd time at 160k miles. No issues at all with the stock plug and I don't even change washers. Sure was nice to use the Allen bit to screw the plug out instead of my fingers. Motul still had a golden color coming out.

@Schultz0462 That plug appears to be an aftermarket part with the magnet. Where did you get it and the part number if known please.
The ring gear runs very close to the stock plug, did you check clearance? What size is the hex head, 24MM? TIA
