I suspected your top and it gives a great colorful look! Well done!
These tables... they are the hardest, most boring tables ever.
I built them perfectly square yet they did not look square. I sanded and chiseled them so now they are not square but look square.
When I say not square I mean maybe a 32nd off. But, something this simple requires just about perfection.
Zoom up on the pic below. That is a three quarter dowel plug. See the tiny gap above and below? I will fill it with my blend of wood putty. Why? Because with a table like this, every error is magnified. I much prefer a more creative and artistic build. I feel like I am building a monolith to go to mars.

 

Well Shop friends, I'm once again asking for your knowledge and advice.

Got a dishwasher, now it's time to think about installing it. I've never done one. Any tips and tricks are appreciated. It will be a plug in cord not hardwired. And the drain will be hooked to a disposal.

 

Big thing is a siphon loop.

Also make sure the manufacturers plug is popped out of the disposal. It should be open where you attach the dishwasher line to inside of disposal

 

Don't make the drain complicated. Every thing follows gravity downhill. Do not over-tighten fittings.
I just advised my SIL and daughter on site for the same install. Today's fittings are hand tight, not wrench tight.

 

Melvin is 65. I am 60. I am confident in our abilities to persevere in any situation.

At that distance I can't hit a barn, but he can hit a knot hole. We compliment each other.

 

I do tend to put the gorilla tight on everything, so I'll try to be very careful

 

The install will be simple for you with your talent, don't overthink it. You got this

Plumbing of any sort always makes me anxious. I suppose the only way to fix that is to do more of it

 

Meh, plumbing is easy!

Just remember to remove the knock-out plug in the disposal. Some people forget that and wind up with water all over their kitchen.

Today marks the birthday of author & screen writer Richard Matheson (1926-2013).
In addition to writing 15 episodes of the original Twilight Zone TV series he also wrote one of my road movie favorites, Duel (1971), based on a personal road rage experience with a trucker on a California highway. Duel was Steven Spielburgs first big production and he credits it with starting his career.

Notice the round mirror on the radiator? It was so the driver could monitor the color and volume of the exhaust smoke (old diesels "rolled coal" a lot of the time), sometimes pushed hard there would be a flame out of the stack.




Extra credit, highly recommended book and cheap on AMZ, I have read this book several times over the years.

My barn was so rickety it was taken down years ago so I can't see mine either. Been taking out footers and foundation from hog pen this week.

 

The first 3 things any young plumber is taught are:

I want to go ahead and apologize if this opens up some wounds for some of you.......

I have a question, if you had a (good) dad in your life did you ever have heart to heart talks?

My dad and I are both non-confrontational people. We just let stuff pass and don't address it where it should be addressed.

I realized on my way in this morning that my dad is 74, I'm 48, and we've never had a heart to heart talk...........ever.

He is a good dad, he drank a lot and I would find his hidden bottles and leave a note asking him to quit when I was a kid. At 20 years old I turned into him and started drinking and drank for 15 years before being able to finally stop.

I told my wife when she got pregnant with our son if he grows up to be an alcoholic he's not learning it from his dad like I did from mine.

I realized this morning I need to go have a heart to heart talk with him. Not for him, for me.

Thoughts?

 

I never could/can. My dad was an abusive alcoholic and has done unmentionable things during my childhood. Can't ever forget all of that. He lives a few miles from here and I have visited him once, but his narcissistic way of talking I can't deal with it. Even told my grandmother (his mother) before she passed he messed up and lost both his sons. Maybe I'll stop by again, I don't know.
