After being on this sight reading helpful advice from most, I also get the impression that a lot of members don’t really like the TRD Sport. There is no other vehicle manufacturer that offers more options like the Toyota Tacoma. I could have bought any model when making my decision but the Sport checked off more boxes than any other. Tacoma literally has a truck for everyone and every price point, we all change things, after all they are the most accessorizable mid-sized pickup in history. So can we all just get along?

Sport was the sweet spot of 2nd gen, it’s certainly not as popular with 3rd gen but it’s still a solid choice for many many happy owners.

Id say every trim level has its place. If you like your truck, that’s good enough.

A lot of folks think TRD OR is better bang for the buck, and I say they are not wrong.

While scoop looks absolutely fantastic, it’s <than a rear locker. Although, I’ve had no issues off-road without rear locker, TC world quite well.

My dream truck was the PRO, it has got both. But at 60$ CAN, I had to go with the Sport. I absolutely love my truck, it’s staying with me till the end of its days.

I really like the TRD Sport. I would've gotten one, but couldn't find a TRD Sport 2WD in my area (looked for months) at the time. So I got an SR5 instead.

I'm probably in the minority, but I wanted a 2WD (never would've used 4WD in my previous trucks) since I'd bring my wife's HL instead if going to the snow. Also, I had a previous bad experience with fading on black plastic trim on our old CR-V, so I was looking for painted fenders like on the Sport and SR5. We get a lot of sun and the truck would always be parked outside, so painted trim usually does better where we live.

Real talk I don’t like the idea of the sport, but I think it’s because it shows a mirror into the more emotional, less practical parts of myself, assuming it’s somewhat the same for some other people. My lizard brain says: These trucks are for off Roading! Get the off-road if you’re going to get a higher trim level, or a pro, locking rear, differential all the way. Or cheap out and get a base model and spend the extra money modifying it. I mean really, tires and suspension tuned for the street, might as well get a sedan. I mean it’s only where most pick up trucks spend 99.99% of their miles…

it’s also a heavy dose of cope because I can really only afford a lower trim model anyway so I am compelled to hate on sport models, and those that choose them, lol animals are funny

I dunno, it’s basically an appearance package

Any benefit over other higher trims other than being cheaper?

Agree with this, I also liked the off-road suspension vs the sport but I loved both

I have an Off Road, but a Sport was my first choice. Unfortunately, with the market the way it has been the last few years, I opted to get the Off Road that was (1) available in the color I wanted, (2) with no markup, (3) at the time I needed a new car rather than wait. I have no regrets, bet I still think the Sport is a great trim.

    Also in the minority here.

Between the choices of 4x4 or the extra couple hundred pounds in payload/tow capacity, I know which one of those I would use more.

    I wanted the latter
