Yeh even a standard level trim LC is a bargain and can be a family hauler too. A definite home run with this Cruiser.

Yep, not cheap. Comes with a lot of great features, but hard to justify the price for my personal needs. The upcoming 4Runner however might hit that sweet spot, at least for the wife’s vehicle. She misses having a SUV, having two Tacomas currently is a bit redundant.

Yeah you could buy two new LCs and still have a bunch left over for fuel and tacos. That old stuff is cool and all, but the modern vehicles are so damn good. Why would you do that unless you have money to burn to look cool, ya know?

If I"m paying $65 k for a vehicle an LC is way more appealing and capable on and off road to me than a similar priced hybrid Tacoma. Better resale value in the long run too.

4Runner OR on the older platform with similar capability (and better tires) is $46k, $11k less than the cheapest LC. Is the hybrid powertrain worth $11k? :notsure:

If the new 4Runner gets better mileage than the current iteration (16/19), I might be able to convince my wife. SHe's due up to replace her Rav4, and we need room for the kid's friends and all their sports equipment.

Mine has been wanting a 4Runner, told her to wait until the new generation comes out. Though she really likes the RAV4 too. If we are being honest the 4R is probably over kill for her needs.

I was just looking at the features of the three models. There’s not a whole lot of changes for the cost. The 1958 has heated cloth seats and a small screen. It’s $6K to bump up to the LandCruiser which gets leather and a bigger screen. Why not just put the bigger screen in all of them? Also why not offer the 1958 in more colors? Toyota really seems to try hard to push people out of the cheaper vehicles. Then add another $13K for the first edition which seems to just get some bolt on accessories. WTF?

Not cheap! Toyota is king of padding the bill.

It is cool and all, but dunno…that is an awful lot of coin. If you don’t need BOF or off-road much, the buy-in on a Grand Highlander Hybrid is quite a bit cheaper, and get a hell of a lot better mileage to boot.

I was looking at the new LC specs and noticed it has the small 17.9 gallon fuel tank. That sucks for road trips. Why is Toyota putting these tiny gas tanks in everything? Meanwhile my wife really like the look of it. Maybe try to get one for her company car if it makes sense financially.

Assuming they are doing it to balance the chassis, putting the tank on the passenger side so you don’t get the “Toyota Lean”. However doing so they have to do some crazy plumbing work on the exhaust routing, thus the tank can only be so big. Yet another one of those “why in the hell did they do that for!?” *scratching head*

Top pics, LC/Tacoma, bottom pic is an older 4Runner, don’t know what they didn’t keep it that way, it is much cleaner, exhaust has a straighter shot…new chassis created more problems than it solved.

The 4Runner has a 23 gallon tank with a similar suspension setup. It doesn’t make any sense.

I just looked up the previous LandCruiser specs and it had a 24.6 gallon tank. WTF.

The LC has battery weight, electronics etc. Maybe also it's a full hybrid and not just power assist. I believe it has start/stop. So all of this combined negates the need for a larger tank.
