Interior plastics exact color match

Some of y’all may know this or it may have been posted in the past, but I wanted to share the info while it was fresh on my mind.

SEM color coat Monterey 15723 matches the darker brown plastics in the 01 perfectly.

I’m currently spraying all of the lighter tan plastics with this darker brown. I plan to top coat this stuff with a soft touch ultra flat clear in about a week after the paint has cured extremely well.

 

SEM is great stuff. I have used it on many projects over the years.

It’s pretty damned close. I installed the cubby back in and it matched nicely.

 

That looks close enough for me! So many of my interior parts are scratched and look so bad right now

How did you prep the surface?

 

Did anyone ever find a SEM paint that matches Gen 1.5 "charcoal" interior plastic trim?

(I'm a big fan of SEM paints...)

 

Had to go to an automotive paint store to get it custom made. They had a TON of SEM cans and none of them were an exact match (he used a special light to compare with the sample sheet & caps and they were either too light or too dark). It was about a year ago but I think I paid like $30 for a quart.
I can get the code later, but if I recall he used that code as a start and altered the color after that for an exact match.

 

Thanks -- a code would be most helpful. Did you have the custom mix put in a rattlecan, or did you shoot it yourself?

I need to get my RAL color swatchbook out and see if I can find a decent match in that palette...

Code he wrote was 5252 but that doesnt return anything when I look it up. I apparently made a post last year about this and #15183 seemed to be a close match. I didn't see that one in person so I can't vouch for it.
I shot the paint myself with a gun. In my case the quart was the same price as like a 16 oz aerosol can so I went with the quart so I can shoot other pieces later if need be.
