Hello everyone! I have a 2021 TRD Off road with only 25k miles and I just noticed the front drive side CV axle as a lot of grease near the boot. I bought this as a certified pre-owned from a South Coast Toyota in Costa Mesa California.

Its only on the drive side, the passenger side looks clean. I just got the truck aligned a week ago as I just put new tires on and they didn't mention any issues

I dont see any grease/oil anywhere on the actual boot or where it connects to the wheel/hub. I scrapped a little off with my finger and its pretty thick grease consistency.

Hoping its not a leak and maybe a previous shop just tried greasing it. What are people's thoughts? Should I talk to Toyota about a warranty claim since they missed this in the certification? Thanks!

Yes, looks like it's seeping out. I'd clean it and watch it.

Just updated the original thread, but forgot to mention originally that I bought this Tacoma as a certified pre-owned from Toyota. Can I talk to them about a free warranty work?

So, yes it’s leaking, but not how they normally leak. Suspect the clamp has failed. It’s an easy fix……

Thanks for the quick replies. Just called my local Toyota dealer and will be taking it in next week. Fingers crossed warranty takes care of it.

^CV axles should be covered by the basic 5yr/60k powertrain warranty. Should be a quick fix in situ. Pry off both clamps, clean up excess grease, squeeze a pouch of new grease in the boot, and cinch up two new clamps.

That’s great! Glad it worked out in your favor. Restores a little faith that dealers can and do right by their customers.
