I have a pioneer head unit that is ancient but works great, however my little speakers in the cab are starting to sound terribly muddy and struggle with even the mildest of bass.

I'm lazy and don't want to modify my speaker brackets and want a direct drop in. What are peoples opinions on the best speakers?

    2004 extended cab btw

    EDIT: Got some JL C1s

Picking speakers is like picking a brand of underwear. Everyone Will have a different answer. It really comes down to the sound that you are looking for, amp vs no amp, and budget. I personally have ran Alpine S and R type for over 15years with no issues. S-type are cheaper and give more crisp High notes in my opinion, where the R-type have more Mid range. R-types do have more tuning range if you're running a 5channel amp.
Id say go into an audio shop and listen to them.
    Best of luck!

Crutchfield will tell you what speakers fits and suggest electrical and mechanical adapters.

I ordered these, they seemed to have the most frequency range and best sensitivity for just running off head unit power. We'll see. Only one person on the forum mentions these but said they're way better than the stock speakers. It has the lowest frequency response out of any of the low RMS 5x7/6x8 speakers I saw.

Went straight in with no issues, dimensionally identical to the factory speakers, pioneer deck seems to have no issues driving them. Couple quick solders, foam tape and mounted. Three to go.

I left the factory tweeter unplugged since these are coaxial.

i stopped using it awhile ago and went to Arm & Hammer. Recently stopped using that due to the dust amount

Now back to Tidy Cat "Free and Clear" for low dust :)

I would highly reccomend using Crutchfield's "outfit my car" on their website. It'll show everything that fits, and you should be able to chat on the website if you need help: https://www.crutchfield.com/car/outfitmycar/mycar.aspx
