    Greetings,
I'm considering getting alarm, remote start and GPS tracking capability for my 2020 TRD-ORD with push to start and keyless entry.

My vehicle came with the psuedo LTE tracking from Toyota, although that information is only available to police (which are not known in the PDX area for reliably recovering vehicles, even with tracking data.

I've been looking at the compustar 2-way remote start and alarm with LTE kits in order to add remote start, tracking, a shock sensor, and fob based notifications if the alarm is triggered.

It sounds like one of my factory fobs may need to be permanently mounted under the dash, which I'd worry could potentially be used for a relay attack, were someone sophisticated enough to take interest in my vehicle. I also worry it could provide headaches were there some sort of technical issue such as the battery in the fob becoming weak.

Is this type of install common and should I be worried about the fob permanently under the dash?

I’ve never heard of anyone having to mount a fob in the vehicle for Tacoma’s. I think they just mentioned that in the brochure/website because there are certain older vehicles that may require it

The install department at Best Buy claimed it was needed because of my Keyless Entry and PTS. The solution sounds kind of kludge in principal, and my personal experience in the tech industry is that solutions of this nature almost always come back to bite oneself and create one hell of a headache at a later point.

as a former installer for Best Buy, and someone with a remote start and GPS in my truck, I will confirm that I personally do not have a fob inside my vehicle.

Thanks, I'll see if I can get ahold of an installer tech opposed to the re-routed general call center for this specific question.
