I recently installed the FBC TAG harness in my 2023 Tacoma OR DCSB with factory LED bed lights and locking tailgate.

This was exactly what I was looking for to have a clean install without compromising the factory wiring harness. Leer installed my TAG box quite a bit higher than I was expecting causing the pigtail connection to be a little tight. I was able to exchange it for one 2" longer which fit perfect!

Since I had the factory LED bed lights I put removed them and put some painters tape behind on the bed. I then reinstalled the lights and traced the outline to make sure the FBC plug wouldn't interfere with the light. I also cut out a cardboard template to make sure the hole was just big enough to fit the plug (I believe the hole was 1 1/4" but it might have been 1"). The cardboard template was also used to mark the center of the hole while the light was installed. After it was marked I used a hole saw to make the cut.

The hole came out nice and clean and I secured the port with self taping screws. The rest of the harness was very easy to install.

Overall I am extremely happy with the product and would highly recommend it to anyone with a Leer TAG.

Also, was the intention to have this sleeve for these wires? Or use the bigger one here

The 1/2” x 3” heat shrink is for sealing over the heat shrink butt connectors after connecting the pigtail. Make sure to slide it on before connecting wires as it won’t fit over the connector.

do I need to crimp the metal down into the 2 copper wires or let it lay loose?

I had an instance today where my rear driver side taillight (where I have the 3rd brake light wired into) wouldn't come on when the AUTO lights came on. When I apply the brake it would light up. But when I let off the brake, the running lights would not show on the driver side. Do you think the 3rd brake is drawing too much power? I have the VLEDS Tacoma Standard Vtails LED bulb conversion kit installed on the taillights as well, so there are a lot of wires going on back there. The brake wires 2 LED bulbs to one connection then I have that connection going to T in your flange that I ordered and then the factory plugged into that.

    Hopefully I am making sense.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Disconnect all the extra harness, connect Oem triangle to brake bulb, turn on parking lights, observe.

if working then reconnect one by one to isolate.

Thanks. I haven't been able to duplicate the problem so I will just monitor it I guess. Everything seems to work fine right now.

Make sure all the connectors are snug and fully clicked in place.

I took the taillight out and made sure everything was clicked in and solid. Didn't see anything loose. Played around with the connection in the bed of the truck and nothing seemed to be loose. Hopefully it was just random.

there is a small amount of corrosion inside of the Stock socket and I didn’t think anything about that. Maybe that could have caused it

If you want a new connector and are comfortable de-pinning the old one:

    However you prefer.

they aren’t difficult to de-pin and especially not difficult if tossing the old connector.

easier to clean the terminals out of the connector.

    Appreciate all the electrical info!

I cleaned it up and put bulb grease on the socket and pins of the taillight. Now I’m reading online that it could cause issues with overheating and melting and shouldn’t be applied to the plugs or metal contacts. My thought was to use it to prevent corrosion.
    Did I do this wrong?

I haven’t done exhaustive testing of anything nor am I qualified to do so.

I kinda dislike dialectic grease just like sunscreen and mayonnaise. No rational reasons for any of that.

I can always supply a new pigtail if that helps.

I guess I will see what happens. I’ve read online that there won’t be a problem and other say there will be a problem. That’s what I get for reading online. Lols.

appreciate all the info. I’ll let you know if I need a new pigtail.
