Is there a lock of some sort that can bridge a picatinny rail?

Putting a new hand guard on AR with a D-ring. The new guard has an extended rail over the D-ring that's flush with the upper receiver rail. Is there a low key extra lock or bridge to reinforce the gap?

Not a concern, more just a though since it might just be unused space.

I can't really figure out the purpose of one, unless you want to mount a sight insanely forward.

You could use a long picatinny riser. But I don't see the point.
