I just got a 2019 SR5 Access Cab Tacoma. Im looking for ideas and suggestions for mods. I do know that I want a 2 in lift on it, but was wondering if itd be worth it? Also I was looking to replace my current grill for a TRD style grille and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for where I could get a good quality one. Thanks yall

YodaXpedition sells grilles I think they're nice, I've bought a few things from them and was happy with them. Personally not a huge fan of that TRD grill, feel like everyone goes with it, but if you have that cheese grater grill I can't blame you. I got the 2022 SR and I like the 2022 grill style a lot, simple and has nothing wild going on with it. I also did a lift, you'll get a lot of hate on spacer lifts and blocks but if you keep them 2" or less and don't off road you shouldn't have many issues, from everything I've read on Tacomaworld (been through a lot of posts/threads), so that's what I went with. It was cheap and it gave me the look I wanted, can always upgrade down the road. Another good alternative if you want to spend more are Blistein 5100 shocks with a leaf kit in the back, or an Add a leaf, but from what I've read, AAL aren't worth it and you're better off just doing a full leaf kit replacement.

I'm still new myself I'm sure others will provide a lot more input.

Welcome to TW dude! Enjoy the taco

Personally I wouldn't do mods just for the sake of doing mods and spending money needlessly. That can get expensive as hell. First determine what your primary use for the truck is. If your outdoorsy and want to go off-roading, then look into those mods that are useful to that hobby. If you want a parking lot princess, go for the grill and other items to make your truck look good. You want it to tow a trailer, then look into towing mods to get a better towing experience.

Of course that's just my two cents. All the same, welcome to the forum. Have a great time building your truck !

What engine do you have...cause with the 2.7L a 2 in lift will look weird cause running bigger tires is basically the worst idea in the world

I concur. Run it as is for at least 3 months, sleep on it a bit, see what it is you 'want' vs what you 'need'.

Regardless you'll probably want nicer riding shocks from the start

Be sure you "need" something first, especially a change that noticeably changes performance or cannot be reversed easily (like a lift). Another poster reported returning a lease vehicle after bigger tires and a lift (does not have the original parts) ... oops!

For example, skid plates can become a necessity (or closer to it) if you travel on forest roads for camping. Or better all-terrain (AT) tires to replace street tires, maybe mud-terrain (MT) tires because your "driveway" is more mud-pit than gravel. But both are easily reversible.

2 inch lift usually requires new needle bearings (not simple), possibly a CMC (cutting the wheel wells), upper control arm replacement), etc. Not as easily reversible.

Here is an extensive list of things that sometimes cost much and require labor but that often require a "need". Be wise with your money so you have it when you need it.

4.88 or 5.29 gears first. That is what I would do differently if I was starting my journey knowing what I know now. EVERYTHING you do to your Taco will, in all likelihood, will decrease performance and tax your engine and drive train (added rotating mass of tires, drag from lifting, drag from bed rack, weight from armor, accessories, etc.). Give your Taco the mechanical advantage it needs up front.

Tractor Supply Company ... 4'x6' "stall mat" for $50. Just need a utility knife to cut it to shape.

Replace the interior lights. The factory bulbs are pretty dim.

Good question. Others have been tear-drop camping for years with just a few "protections" like skids added ... otherwise mostly stock.

I'm really glad I installed the wiring for locking the tailgate also.

The gasshole is cheap. It’s not really needed at all but it was the first thing I bought cuz it makes me laugh, and I make a stupid joke about it anytime I fuel up with a passenger

Jokes aside, the bed mat is the only worthy purchase I would make right away. Otherwise I’d ride it out, and you’ll know what you need when you need it

    really simple.

    start with a prinsu rack.

after that, add a roof top tent, 2 solar panels, 270 degree awning, water filtration and storage on the opposite side of the rack from the awning, 2nd battery with charging management, as well as the trd intake, and an uprated alternator as well as the 'big 3', or 'big 7' wire size increase.

from there, you absolutely need to change to 5.10 gears, as well as front and rear locking differentials. if air lockers, you'll also need a compressor and storage tank, which will be helpful for airing up and down at the trailhead. get a nice ac/dc cooler for food items, and you're golden.

from there, we can move to the interior. start with replacing the radio, add an amp like the audiocontrol d-6.1200, and d-4.800, and set up the 6.1200 to run full active to the front stage and subwoofer. the 4.800 would be for the rear/party speakers. speakers are going to be personal preference

you'll also want a CB radio for local coms, as well as ham radio certification so you can run gmrs higher power radios for longer distance communication.

all-in, it should only be about $60k, and about a year of downtime if you shop and install wisely-- you should probably have some alternative reliable transportation during that time as well. but then you can enjoy your new modded truck!
