    Hey y'all,

Just wondering if anyone got their 4cyl tacoma tuned and if it smoothed out the idle vibrations at all?

Has anyone bought OVtuner and raised their idle speed to reduce the idle vibration?

Why I'm asking: My 2016 2.7 tacoma with 90k mi vibrates annoyingly at idle in gear. I've done all the usual diagnostics, routine maintenance and cleanings and can't make it go away. I am considering getting OVtuner and raising the idle by 50 or 100 rpm. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

With the truck idling is the tachometer needle steady or does it bounce a little bit?

It's steady, around 550-600 rpm depending on if any accessories are on. Zero misfires on OBD. Runs smooth above idle and no driveability issues. The engine, tranny, and exhaust all shake pretty noticeably at idle. The headrest shakes and any cups in the cupholders jiggle around and make noise. A toyota dealer said it was 'normal'.

Not normal. The 2.7 2trfe is a really smooth idling 4 cylinder usually

I'm having the same issue. Tach holding steady at idle, and drives fine, but feels like it has a miss. no codes. I recently did a minor tune up of filters and oil but still having the same issue. Not enough miles (48k) to warrant a plug change but might pop them just to see how they look.

Thanks y'all. I have done new plugs plugs, cleaned throttle body, maf, and oil control valves, changed oil, checked air filter, looked for broken vacuum hoses, checked fuel trims (mostly normal except slightly rich idle -4LTFT), used techron in gas, etc. The only thing that can modulate it is when i drive on the highway for a while then come to a stop (idle in gear like a stop sign), it basically doesn't shake for the first 30 seconds then slowly comes back as I sit there. I can't figure out an explanation for why driving continuously for a while makes it temporarily better. Super frustrating.

i guess this is the problem i am chasing as well. my thread is titled "rpm drop when shifting.." on the 2.7 front page. rpm at idle in park/neutral is 750-800. idle rpm bogs down to 550 when switched over to drive/reverse while brake pedal is being applied. i got ott tune.

@spicy_fish_taco I read your thread and yes, it definitely sounds like the exact same issue. Thanks for reaching out. Just like you, I put the car in drive with my foot on the brake and it shakes, and then if I engage the emergency brake and take my foot off the foot brake, the rpms increase and it stops shaking (or I should say it smooths out to a very acceptable little rumble).

I agree this makes me think it's an electrical issue. I tried unplugging my brake lights, but that didn't change anything. I did an engine vacuum test which showed a rapid flutter of the vacuum needle between 20-21.5". From what I read this could be consistent with an ignition issue, but also could be normal in a large displacement 4cylinder engine. Here's that thread if you want to read it:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/help-me-understand-vacuum-test.792882/

I have heard a lot of people say this is normal for a large 4cylinder engine to vibrate at idle. I get it and I understand why it could be the case in theory. But it's strange that many people report that theirs doesn't vibrate at all. I used an iphone vibrometer and the frequency of the oscillation seemed to correspond to twice the rpm, which is the E2 vibration, which is normal for a 4cylinder. But the amplitude was very high. Here's an article that helped me understand the vibration analysis: https://www.fenderbender.com/runnin...9526/use-your-scope-to-pinpoint-causes-of-nvh

Thanks for letting me know you got the tune. Sorry that didn't smooth it out. My vibration is annoying enough that it makes me want to sell the truck, and I love everything else about the truck.
