Took my new-to-me 1.5-month old 2016 Sport with 60K to Toyota today for a coolant check. As expected it's the coolant bypass pipe......$1500. I can handle that BS but then they hit me with the timing cover leak....roughly $5K. Getting the pipe fixed Tuesday and just gonna roll with the oil leak and keep an eye on it. Needless to say I'm upset.....at myself for being a dumbass, at Toyota for an obvious flaw they haven't fixed, and for the Acura dealer that sold me the truck. The dealer was terrific and my technician was very honest....said they see the pipe issue every now and then but the oil leak is a huge problem they see often. This sucks because I put 210K on my 05 4Runner that had zero issues. Not happy.....

pic of the oil leak from the dealer....

Sorry to hear man. I'd go to an independent garage myself.

Sorry for you brother! When I wore a younger man's clothes, engine oil leaks were a fact of life!

When you changed the oil every 3k it wasn't that big of a deal.

A bottle of coolant as well is not a bad idea.

Go to a Toyota independent shop. Should cost about half of what the dealership is charging.

Ouch. You got hit with two semi-common big problems. Unfortunately it is known that 2016 wasn’t a great year for Tacomas. Did you have the truck looked over by a mechanic before purchasing?

Did the Acura dealer provide any kind of warranty with the truck purchase? I would expect something from them…

Try to get them to give you a family discount , tell them you are tight on funds, etc etc.

I told my dealer to kick rocks when my OEM clutch went out at 43k and they quoted me to put the same one back in. I asked why when it will fail so quickly? I've never had a clutch go out in the 20 plus years I've been driving them. I went with an upgraded aftermarket one for the same price from my mechanic and he changed all my fluids at the same time. Smh, I can't believe how bad dealers suck nowadays.

The markup is insane on the parts they buy from their own dealership (and charge you)

At least your dealer is willing to fix. Most stray away from wanting to do it since the fix is so invasive. I cleaned mine off about thousand miles ago so I am letting it build back up to see how bad mine is “seeping” so that I can at least get it documented. I love my truck but it does bother me knowing it has this flaw that will most likely get worse. I still have a long way to go too since it only has 21k on it.

exactly....so what is end-game here? There will always be that fault in the truck and it will get worse. Spend $5K and have it happen again? So many things I wanted to do to this truck (already did tires, stereo, tint, bed cover, bed mat...).....now I'm discouraged from doing anything to it.....
