08 tacoma. Why is there such a discrepancy in pricing for a pump? Amazon- ebay they can be about $80. O'Reilly, Autozone, NAPA they're $200‐$300. That's a crazy difference. What gives?

Because parts stores are rip offs.

Example. Needed an A/C compressor for the wife's car. Denso is the OEM maufacturer.
    Dealership-$900
Local parts stores selling unknown brand-$500-$700
    Rockauto Denso- $300

Because it cost a lot of money to run a "brick and mortar" store.

Thanks for the replies. Brick n mortar are expensive but they provide jobs and convienience. They aren't all Jeff Bezos greedy a holes. I'll give Rock Auto a shot...

What are the chances of re-building the pump?

I had a fairly new pump when I got in a wreck. I was able to replace the bent pulley with a new OEM one.

Online ....New OEM is $299 with the 28% dealer discount with free shipping....I'd order from a dealer more local to you in case you need to return it.

I see there are a bunch of parts you can get for the pump too.

At the bottom 04446 is a seal kit I think....Good Luck!

    from who.
Poopoocaca brand is not the same as reputable brand.
Yes, a reputable brand can be found slightly cheaper, reducing the amount of markup that is on that same part.

In certain cases, an OEM brand part is also available on RockAuto, for cheaper and less likely to be counterfeit than ebay or Amazon.

That being said, folks have done rebuilds. You could try that first. I'm in the same boat. Don't know if it actually works. Why?
    1. rebuild appears to replace O-rings. That's it.
    2. mine is starting to make noise. I don't know if that's caused by metal worn inside. It's not leaking profusely. I imagine this noise issue has nothing to do with O-rings and wouldn't be fixed by replacing them. As far as I'm aware, all an O-ring does is keep fluid inside. So fix a leak, maybe. Fix wear and noise? Maybe not.

Mine has been making moaning noises for a couple months. No leaks but has 200,000 on it. A replacement is best

I'd recommend Rockauto.com over Amazon for parts. Cheaper than brick and mortar, but if you know what you need you can't beat the price and they have a range of quality/price points when available, including very often OEM parts for less than a similar priced store label aftermarket part.

I rebuilt my pump on my 2003 Tacoma . I bought a repair kit from Toyota and did it myself . I took my time , new vanes and seals . Worked perfect afterwards and was good until I sold the truck 100 k miles later .It was actually fun too do . I did it because I wanted to see if it would work ok
