Hello all, I just got back from Toyota after having an oil change. Writer brings me to the shop where truck is in air. He shows me the oil leak mess all over the right side and in the front. He tells me its the timing cover leaking, which these 3.5s are known to have issues with. He then quotes me $6200 because they have to pull motor and reseal the front of the engine.
Anyone hear of this being a known issue and the extensive repairs 22 hours?
I tried searching but only thing I found was a cam solenoid cover was the culprit with a broken O ring. Im going to clean shit up and maybe do a smoke test to see where its leaking. Anyone deal with this before? TIA

Look up timing cover leak, very common. Bad luck.

It is 22 hours, some remove the engine, some leave it in but remove diff and rack to reseal. It's a bear of a job.

Sorry for your bad luck. Not sure how you didn’t get any hits on a search, unfortunately it sounds common, and often bubbles to the top due to costs of proper repair.
I’m keeping a close eye on mine while I’m still under warranty.

    Your kidding right?
you've been a member from 2015 and have over 500 post and this is the first you have heard of the timing cover problem that probably 60% of the trucks will get because they STILL haven't fixed it.
i have a 2016 with 60K and have had it for 2 years.
PS the coolant cross over pipe will probable leak also.

Yeah I havent been on here in a few years. Was off putzing around with motorcycles, and the last 4 years I spent building a 68 Camaro BBC SS.

My buddy is a tech and it’s on our list of inspections, and yeah I’ll pay that warranty off with it,, though I’d rather not have to :D
