that is a beautiful color, i always love the naturally dark woods. what'd you seal it with?

 

I use anchor seal and get it from a store in Portland. They buy a 55 gallon drum and sell as there house brand but worker told me the barrel says anchor seal

 

Is that food safe?

 

Maybe...

 

It’s just to seal the end grain while air drying. Probably is tho. Just wax and water I believe

 

What’s that wheel attached to? Pics please!

 

I wouldnt use it personally on food items.

Successful right thumb surgery happened yesterday. Left thumb is scheduled for March 11.

Won’t get to use it for a few weeks now.

 

It's amazing what you can do with one hand. This is how I know.

I liked part of the post and dislike the other part but considering that the band saw will still be there when you heal that makes it a win, win situation. Hope you heal fast!

Today's shop time. Finished cutting the tennons on the cross stretchers.

The dado set that I have doesn't cut real smooth. The outside plates leave score lines.

So I sanded all the tennons smooth. This makita sander works excellent hooked up to the triggered shop vac. Virtually dustless sanding !

Nice and smooth and flat now. They will be much easier to fit like ths.

Then I did some layout on the legs for the thru mortices.

All the mortices are layed out on both sides of the legs now.

Next step will be drilling out the waste from both sides. It's going to be a bit of a challenge making a 6" thru mortice.

 

I got about an hour in the shop tonight so I started drilling out the waste from the mortices.
Set up the drill guide with a 3/4" spade bit. The drill guide really does help to keep me straight.

Drilled a little over half way thru.

I quickly switched to a corded drill so I don't burn up my old blue ryobi cordless. This is going to be a lot of drilling.

First I establish the corners and then just connect the dots.

Once I get done with this side I'll flip em and finish drilling from the other side. I do file the spade bit to keep it cutting. It does drill really fast and clears the chips well.

 

I think it is time to replace my 5" random orbital sander. I have been using a Porter Cable sander for many years (made back when PC made great tools in USA). I think there was some discussion here about sanders, but being too lazy to search...

Online, the reviews like the Makita BO5031K for woodworking. Aside from Festool (which I am not totally opposed to), any opinions?
