I've recently acquired the Diode Dynamics 30" light bar and am about 90% convinced I want to mount it in the usual "stealth" bumper location. However, I have a mid-rise topper and am curious if anyone has seen or installed a light bar on the front face of a topper. There's a black panel affixed with two bolts (~36" apart) that seems like a perfect location for this.

The benefits of this location would include a higher mounting level without the hood glare caused by over-windshield style mounts. And potentially a slight "ditch light" effect due to the backset origination of the light. I can't see this portion of my topper through my side mirrors, so I don't expect glare being an issue in that regard.

    Thanks in advance!AP1GczOOP8hJZuILsYKlEtjWUeMnZOWxm_cljOlf_2cc4f024a49a548a0c29a7b23a5e1d197b9e1f4d.jpg

You'll be able to see your roof fine if you'd like to wax it at night.

I've never seen a light bar there, but it's real close to where your light bar would end up if you mounted it to a headache rack, and I've seen plenty of light bars mounted there. I think you should go for it.

Mounting in the bumper would be a much better solution for a couple reasons:
-usable light output; mounting in the bumper will project the beam forward at near headlight level, giving you usable light. Mounting the bar that far back and even with the roof line, you'll get very little usable light. It would be lighting up tree tops, there would be an extremely harsh cutoff from the roof, and all of your expensive lighting would be reflected up off of the roof, giving very little usable light.
-wiring; well, its just easier to run wires under the hood/behind grill than from on top of the bed of the truck.

I think the light would need to be raised a significant amount (maybe 6") in order to be effective in that location.

All great points. I ended up putting it in the bumper based mainly on the wiring concern - that and the idea of working out a mounting system that would be secure and not damage the glass panel on the topper. No regrets.
