While started I can take the key out of the ignition but still runs and all

Should I be concerned because right now I'm not rather I'm laughing at it

    Oh it's a 97

Most all of the older Toyota's you could do that. Toyota says it's normal. Welcome to the forum :hattip:

Now you can leave the truck running while you go into to buy your lotto tickets and lock the door behind you with the key. Its a very desirable feature

I had a Ford Ranger you could take the key out while it was running. My wife and I were going to eat one night and I had to come by my work. I took the keys out and unlocked the door to the shop. Didn't know my boss was still there so I got what I needed and we left.

Got to the restaurant and I turned the truck off and reached for my keys......oops.

Had to call my boss and get him to bring them to me, they were still in the door of the shop :anonymous:

Normal. I used to have an old 87 Supra that would practically start with a screwdriver.

My 96 does the exact same thing, pretty handy during the winter when you can warm up the vehicle, pull the key out, lock it and head back into the office/home while its getting to operating temp.

Whether you consider this a benefit or not is up to you. I had a new key made for mine, and the new key wouldn't come out while the truck was running. I prefer it that way, so I put the in&out key in the drawer as a backup.
