Don't be too hard on yourself. This happened to me on the test drive when I took it out. Pulled into a parking lot to verify the 4wd, 4H good, shift to 4L: "beep-beep-beep" and the blinking light. At first I thought maybe I broke it or the 4WD was toast and was so disappointed. Fortunately found the directions on the visor: "shift transmission to "N". Beep stops, lights solid", back to 2H and back to the dealer.

Before the boo-birds start: I love posting in wicked-old threads. It's like going back in time. :D

Hope you still have the truck! :proposetoast:

I try to engage and use 4H at least once a month for a few miles in a rain storm. When I get back to my driveway I select/shift to 4L to exercise it as well. The first one is always more clunky-sounding then the next two. I don't test or experiment with 4L at all away from my house or off-road in the woods fishing in a remote spot somewhere. I just don't trust it to come back out of 4L to 4H/2H in that scenario. It always seems like it's taking longer to do it when you haven't seen anyone else around for the last three days.

Thats a strange looking second gen 4wd knob. Is that aftermarket? It doesnt look like it works the same way as a two-boob-boob-nine tacoma 4wd switch…..:spy:

    edit: two-boob-one-boob lol

I've noticed a few posts lately that seem to be from either bots, or people very unfamiliar with how to use forums.
