    My Tacoma is relatively new, bought it new, currently around the 6100 mile mark. So last night I was leaving my brothers, it turned on fine nothing different, backed out the drives way, put in in drive and started driving.

    As I turned a corner, that couldn’t have been more than a few feet from where I left, o felt the truck slow down a bit but I proceed to finish the turn at that speed. When I press the gas to keep driving after the corner I just heard the engine rev but no change in speed almost like it was in neutral, looked at the shifter to double check if maybe I hadn’t accidentally knocked it into neutral and I hadn’t, looked at the screen to make sure it said I was on drive and I was. I tried to apply gas again and same thing happened, just revved up. I braked and slapped the bitch into park and just took a second to see if anything came on and nothing did, so I put it back in a drive and it started going normally.

    has this happened to anyone? Any idea why this happened or should I be worried? I havent had a tune done, in a last post I talked about getting a pedal commander but I never went through with that.

    I’d check the transmission fluid level.

    @Starman1251:
    My '21 TRD OR auto does something similar. When I take it out for the first time, and head down my driveway (slight down slope), the torque converter doesn't immediately engage (lock up). I suspect its because there's minimal load on the drivetrain and no real demand on the transmission because of the downgrade. It does eventually lock up once I give it a bit of gas.
    IMHO it's normal behavior.

    Take it to the dealer and have the fluid level checked. There could also be and issue with the transmission valve body, programming or the torque converter. Regardless take it to the dealer to have it documented and checked over so if it becomes warranty you have a paper trail.

    This is not normal for an automatic transmission. Also, the torque converter only locks up under certain conditions typical steady state, low torque. ( it has a hydraulically controlled clutch ), it is not locked up under low speed high, high torque demand.

    What tune do you have? I'm having some issues with KDMax right now. The truck will accelerate uncommanded and will redline between the 2-3 shift seldomly.

    The post has been fixed, I meant to say I haven’t had a tune done. Everything is stock

    I agree, this is a non-issue. My truck will do this sometimes right after I pull out of my driveway too, particularly if I’m really feathering the throttle and only right after the first start after hours of sitting. It feels like it’s daydreaming for a second and snaps out of it. I drove a rental Tacoma for a week a while back and it did the exact same thing in the exact same spot and circumstances. I know 3rd gen Tacomas aren’t the only vehicle that I’ve noticed this or something similar with, when their cold either.

    OP, forget about it. You’ll only be wasting your time taking it to Toyota, having them look for a problem that doesn’t exist and they will say they can’t reproduce it 100% guaranteed anyway.

    aside from having the dealer document the issue and look for a solution; any chance the drums were sticking?

    edit: parking brake cable could have been sticking too

    My terminology may not be correct, but it's like this:
    Start it in the AM, turn around so I can head out, nudge it into D and a bit of the skinny pedal. I essentially coast down the slight grade of my 600' driveway. If I give more pedal it acts like it's in N for a split second until the RPMs increase enough for it to "catch" and accelerate.
    This is the only time it behaves like this - heading slightly downhill, low speed, no real demand to maintain speed (15 MPH perhaps).

    This is not normal. Once you have selected a gear there should be 2 gears engaged and there should be positive acceleration when you apply the throttle. Cold or hot. If it feels like the engine rpm is increasing but the vehicle is not then you may have an issue. And the stall speed of the torque converter will be low so that will not be the issue here.
