My wife is getting a new 4 runner. The dealership we found didn't have one yet but supposed to next week, fine. Have them a deposit. Now they want me to drive 6 hours one way just to sign a paper saying we want it. Said they need a "wet signature". I found another one and will be picking that one up Monday from a different dealership.

From my personal experiences its best to be patient. Hopefully the new dealership you found is not 8hours away

It is but the 4 runner is on the lot and I'll be leaving with it. 8 hours there and back equals 16 hours. 6 hours there and back twice is 24 hours.

    Wow really!
I found a rig I liked at dealership it was used. It was on the lot told them I wanted to talk had a deal done.
They said they needed a deposit to hold it asked them why I want to buy it.
They did not have the title yet and couldn’t sell it.
I gave them a check for the full amount.
    But didn’t sign it!
They called and said I didn’t sign my check I said you didn’t have the title either. Truck was mine 2 days later!

In 2013 I bought a car from 90 miles away and had it delivered to a local dealership. Only wet signature was one when I picked it up,

Hell - for that matter, in 2000, I bought a Nissan Xterra from 5 hours away and did it all with E-Mail and fax.

I know I bought one last year from a different state and didn't have to wet sign anything.

I think someone didn't know their $#!+ at that dealership. Probably the newest salesman on the lot.

If they really want to sell you the truck they don't need any of that. Heck, they could put it on a trailer and ship it to your front door with the keys on the seat if they wanted to make it happen.

If they're saying they need this or that in person that means they have a guy standing right there in the lobby that wants it.

That's what I'm saying. If they really wanted to sell it to you there would be no roadblocks at all. My coworker bought a Civic Type-R at a local dealer and he set the whole thing up via text with the salesman. He didn't ask for and didn't receive any discounts..

You know how Eskimos have 100 words for snow? Dealers have 100 ways to get out of a formal agreement

"We need a wet signature" is dealer-speak for "we found an easier/better sale".
