That is a nice truck-unusual color too. I get more compliments than offers to buy. I only got two guys so far this year asking if I would sell it. Before that, maybe once a year. Those two guys were driving a Ram and an F250. Ram hit me up at Safeway and F250 at Costco.
People in general do have love for these trucks. So yeah, you're going to get looks and occasional compliments too.

I get asked at least once a month at a gas station but not a handwritten note cause of security.

No notes left yet but have had a bunch of offers to buy mine. Lots of folks like these old Toyotas. Most reminisce about having one once upon a time.

Enjoy the notoriety. You’ve worked for it on that truck.

    FWIW,
I saw a run down reg cab 1st gen 4x4 with a proper fitting camper shell going to waste in a yard this week. Hunted like heck for a phone number but came up short. May work up the nerve to stop back by and knock on the door about the camper shell. Looked like one window was busted out and would have to paint it but ain’t having much luck finding one elsewhere, that fits.

That's just creepy, the fact he already has pre-typed notes says he does this on a regular basis.

Never a note with my 86 but I’ve been asked by quite a few people if it’s for sale, I always kind of find it odd as I don’t have a for sale sign on it.

Never recieved a note. I have been talked to about my truck and asked if I want to sell it. It doesn't happen often, maybe 6 times total. (I've owned the truck for 22 years)

I used to work in San Leandro and a guy would pay some cholos to put those notes on every car in our parking lot 1-2 days a week. We had a security guard, and he would watch them do it.

    rocklobster….my Texan!
    U can confirm this

my work territory goes from Houston to Goliad. I make 2-3 trips down 59S every week. I see salvage builders towing 2 vehicles (plus tow vehicle) traveling to MX, going 50mph (in a 75mph zone)regularly.
Now since I got the taco, I have noticed
that I see more 1st gen’s than most any other vehicle….getting towed to MX
    I have seen 3 times a V6 Tacoma/4Runner towing 2 beat up 1st gen’s….3 groups of 3(with beds filled with parts/motorcycles/etc)
That’s a lot of parts ‘disappearing’

now I do know that these trucks fetch close to 45-50% salvage value
I.E. ACV (what insurance pays owners) of a Taco is $8k these guys are buying for $4k
so they are not cheap, even at IAA salvage auctions
(Yet another reason these trucks total so easily….shit, ins company almost breaks even when a Tacoma is totaled)

just sucks to see them leave the US in bunches

I've had a few people ask about the truck and how much they are worth but never any offers. Not that I would sell it. Going to pass it onto my kid.

I've heard that this has been going on for years here in California too. Pre Tacoma pick ups and Tacomas getting transported south.

A friend of mine had an '01 Tacoma for sale, maybe 8 years ago. It was nasty, dents everywhere, been smoked in, water leaking in...anyway, a guy came up from So Cal and paid him like $5500 for it, said it would be going south of the border.

Happens quite often. I’ve never found a note but always getting compliments and or an offer to buy.

My dad had to unintentionally sell his truck (same style and color as yours super clean and maintained) 2 years ago when he went to visit some old friends at a job site. A guy asked him if he’d consider selling his truck for 3 grand. My dad replied with “you have to offer me at 7 grand for me to take you seriously” so the guy said “ok, 7,500” and got an envelope out his car and gave it to my dad. He’s still pissed about it to this day. He brought it up randomly on Monday saying he should’ve never sold the truck

I used to have a 93 Toyota pickup fully stock 5 lug. I’d get them about every 6 months. Especially if I stopped driving it for more than a week or two. I’ve had my 96 4x4 Tacoma for about 4 years now and I’ve never received anything for it

awe similar to the story of my 90 truck my nephew brought his 95 Tacoma 2wd, over for some work, and I threw him my keys to pull my truck, out. he looked at me and said hey, would you ever sell that now that you have your Tacoma? I jokingly said hey $5500 because you're a good kid and I know you will drive this truck as hard as me... the next afternoon he showed up to the house $5500 in hand and the box of parts to fix the 95. was both sad and kept my word. should have said $5500 and the 2wd but oh well.

None of this with either of my Tacos but I had a 1991 Nissan Hardbody and had people ringing the doorbell once a week. As I recall, not one of them was fluent in English. It was always some variation of them struggling to get the phrase "you... Sell? ... Truck?" I was ready to put up a sign saying no.
