EXACTLY! This is how i've seen this exact, failure in real life, which happens when the X-fer case actuator is still engaging and the driver gasses it. Maybe the actuator failed midway through engagement giving a positive engagement reading, maybe something else. Electronics, mechanical error or driver error. Taking the human error out of one of the possibilities is naive. One broken truck isn't the end of the world and should be an issue to learn from not stifle opinions about its cause.

The drama from one video is crazy. Imagine what the video doesn't show....

Didn't think of it this way. This is true. A vast majority of Tacoma buyers will never consider this an issue, or be aware of it. I guess it may come down to what Toyota wants their reputation to be, as a mall crawler or a true off-road vehicle.

Just based from the loud metal snapping sound l am betting it wasn't a minor electrical glitch.

So it looks like the best generation Tacoma is the new Chevrolet Colorado.

    And on that bombshell, goodnight.

Dunno... maybe it's just me, but I don't see these: "truly mind-boggling to me that there are many of you in here who watched the video and can honest to God say you think it broke due to abuse/quickly gaining traction/driver error" entries.

    Not even one(?).

They know Toyota has history not covering things even when the vehicle is designed for it...The Toyota GR86 comes to mind.

I raced my FRS for 2 years SCCA group A and while talking on another forum that was the case. Toyota wouldn't cover failures due to racing when they advertised the FRS on a racetrack and even promoted how they could fit 4 tires and a jack in the trunk when you take it to the track. Which it could fit since I did it..lol.

I think they were even giving buyers a free race experience with the National Auto Sport Association and not covering the engine when it failed during the complementary track day...lol
