I'm no fan of my 3rd Gen, but from what I've seen, I can't stand the 4th Gen. Just watching that TFL video....why the fuck does a truck need so many damn buttons? Way to much stuff going on with it....don't need it, need a truck.

While a bit down on power, I still think the first gen V6 Taco was a more robust truck than and 3rd or 4th gen. Even 2nd gen is questionable, although better than the 3rd gens (except for the shit cloth seats that fall apart).

Trucks should have metal bumpers that can take a bump.
Trucks should have mildly comfortable seats because many folks use them for work and spend a lot of time in them
    Trucks should be durable
    Trucks should be simple
Trucks should have more torque than a Camry (I can either use 4 low or I can smoke the clutch pulling my boat up the ramp or maneuvering a trailer in my 3rd gen...that's BS)

I'm a former Toyota tech...I was there for the 1st gens and when the 4L came out in the 4runners. Toyota has lost their way.

Still all in my head… but I’m keeping the chrome bumper!
Is it the rattling noise of the trim? One of my many PIA’s of my rig but it’s all paid off and mine… “the hell ya know is better than...”

For anyone wondering how the 2nd genners felt when the 3rd gen rolled out, or how the 1st genners felt when the 2nd gen rolled out…

I saw a comment a few pages back didn’t bother to quote it about the third gen being a 200k mile truck at best. Don’t see it nor any of the myriad of issues listed with that comment. As of today 111963 miles since new in December of 2022. Nothing nada zero zilch wrong with my truck. Broke a drivers side mirror glass and tore the spare tire and mount off ( didn’t see the knocked over buried in the mud road sign in Ketchikan). Other than that it’s been awesome. When I get back to the states at the end of May I’ll have over 150k.

It's plasticky, but it's simple, stylish, and looks like a truck.

I'm really not digging the 4th gen's interior design and its great wall of switch blanks. It's too fussy.

That dude has been doing nothing but going on absolutely batshit road trips. As we all dream to do.

Have owned the pre-Tacomas too, don’t remember such hatred between the generations…of course the internet didn’t exist either. Usually we were just excited for a new truck, since our current one typically had high miles and was getting tired. Had a few nit picky things of “why did they do that” “it will not last!” When the Tacoma first came out in 1995.5, the biggest fuss was them going to a rack and pinion steering, and going away from a fully boxed frame.

When the 2nd Gen came out, it was “it’s too damn big! It won’t fit down the trails I like to go!” and “too plasticky! Those headlights look like bug eyes!” “Plastic bed, wtf!!??”

annnd we all know the pissing and moaning about the 3G.

Nostalgia of the “good ol’ days” always plays a factor, but if we are honest with ourselves the good ol’ days were never that good.

lol batshit road trips. I liked that. Uncle Sam gave me the opportunity to retire after working for him for 27 years. I took it. It, my military service, came with some steep prices and burdens but I would do it all again.

This trip started as a trip to Barrow to spread one of my military Brother’s ashes. Let’s just say it took on a mind of its own. It now has turned into me living a year for the 15 of them that didn’t come home with me. My life never had quality just quantity and staying alive. This trip is the first quality thing I’ve done and has been nothing but quality. And batshit crazy at times. Like getting used to breathing at 18k feet in Peru changing a flat.

can't beat the tow capacity. They also are some of the oldest trucks still kicking on the road. Fir me though, it's no longer a mid size truck like the ranger or tacoma. Certainly nothing wrong with it if you like full size truck.

Nope can’t beat the tow or payload capacities. Have been on the cusp of needing a full-size for years. Love my Tacoma and all, it is great for running around town and weekend trips. But kinda sucks on long road trips, it gets tight real quick, and isn’t the best thing for towing a camper. Sure people make them work, but I need a little more. Like the Tundras, reading up on their growing pains give me pause. These days it seems like you have to pick your poison. For how expensive these trucks have gotten, think the build quality would be damn near perfect.

    Lol!

One of my friends bought a brand new 1st Gen when they came out, remember a few of us were pretty envious. I finally saved up enough cash and bought one a couple years later. Felt like a rocketship coming off my ‘92 with a 22RE. Now that 3.4 V6 looks like weaksauce compared to the numbers the 4th Gen T4 is putting out.

The current gen F150 is my front-runner for the full size trucks. I enjoyed my F150 Lariat rental with the 5.0 Coyote V8.

Spent half a day in my buddy’s 5.0 towing a 6X12 cargo trailer. Sure do like that V8, got down the road with little to no effort, the little extra room in the cab was nice too. Thought to myself I could get used to this. Gets similar mpgs as my Tacoma too. They now come with a 36 gallon tank standard. Be great for road trips. Those TFL guys in the 4th Gen Tacoma were stopping what, every 150 miles or so towing a trailer that was maybe 3500 lbs? For Toyota marketing heavy it as an adventure rig, they sure did put a small gas tank in it. (18 gallons)

This is my dilemma. I've been driving my 2002 GM 3/4 ton for the last 2 weeks while the tacoma is in the body shop...It rides like shit, rattles, sucks to park, but its a truck that is very good at doing truck stuff, and it's worth about $10K. Kinda thinking of dumping the Taco and spending that money on 2 more old GMs to last me the rest of my life lol.
