Pretty sure it’s normal. Mine sounds the same. I’ve researched before and found it’s just the the injectors self cleaning.

You have to listen closely. Its not fuel injectors. It sounds like a timing chain being loose.

Sounds normal to me. These engines are noisy by default, but I don't here anything out of the ordinary

Did it not make the noise prior to the timing chain cover repair?

I have the same “knocking” on the passenger side. Apparently it’s normal and it’s the self cleaning cycle but mine does it consistently once the motor is up to temp. If you click my profile I made a thread with a video you can compare the sound.

If it was truly knocking you would hear it inside the cab. Don't worry about it and enjoy your truck! Perfectly normal.

I can here it inside. The injector I can here. What you have to pay attention too is the off beat knocking.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Generally it sounds normal for these trucks. There is a very light rattle on the passenger side that might not be normal. Sounds a little separate from the normal racket these engines make.

Driver side sounded completely normal until you got to the engine front, where there was a bit of knocking that almost sounded like a bearing. Alternator, water pump, etc. Then again, maybe not. So hard to tell from a video without being there.

Do the old fashion method and get a good mechanics stethoscope to listen to various parts. Don’t get it caught in the pulley!

You say the thing you hear started after a timing chain cover job? The timing chain was replaced? How many miles on the Taco? Chain should last a very long time.

Yea after a timing chain cover. They didn't replace it being under warranty since they don't have to technically remove it. Its now at 80,000 miles. The driver side seems normal. All of the knocking is coming from the left side of the front end. It sounds like a leather belt smacking in there. It is completely on a different timing pattern to the normal ticking noise of the truck.

it started after the timing chain cover or you just never noticed it before?

listen to this video sounds like yours and this is a video from Toyota. I agree though, I’m skeptical this is a normal noise.

I would put an effort to check it out. I can tell you that it is not 110% the cleaning cycle noice.
I think it it the timing chains. The passenger side of the engine - the chain tensioner and chain guide.

It started after the timing chain cover job. There was also a jump in 877 miles while at the dealership. Meaning someone took it for a joy ride while having issues. They has to replace all of my pulleys and belt tensioner immediately the next day from the work they did.

in that case I would ask the dealership for an extended warranty. Reach out to corporate and explain the situation if they give you a hard time

They won't. They are giving me a hard way to go. They blocked me from seeing technicians notes and everything meaning there covering up.
