Really would like to replace my 19 stereo head unit, but want to retain the non stereo factory applications. I’m not looking to watch DVD’s at the mall, just listen to music, have My iPhone connected with iplay, and listen to CD’s, or downloaded Bluetooth music. ( not all of us are flat landers, and find cell service sparse much of the time).
Toyota no longer supports Entune, which means, everything is hands on, no verbal commands are recognized, no Siri, no Alexa, etc..
Thinking about the DDX9907XR, although it’s 5 years old now. Question is, what additional costs will be incurred to get it to function? Apparently I need a maestro interface, and numerous interface cables, mic, sat, steering wheel button harness, and ???.
Anyone been down this road, what exactly is needed, and what was the outcome? Did it all work, or did you continue to throw money at it?

 

Personally I couldn't justify spending over $1000 replacing the HU and buying all those adapters in order to retain all the factory interface functions. Therefore, I purchased this module that mounts under the HU in order to provide me with Android Auto, voice commands and live Google maps. My TRD OR version had the Sirius module mounted underneath and I just removed it entirely. You can retain the Sirius module but I never cared for the technology and took it out.

Got a FabFours rear bumper from my friend for free. Wouldn't recommend the one man installation but with some creative jack work, rubber bands on the stud plates, using a generator to balance the one end and some luck I got it on by myself without any damage to my truck.

 

When I installed mine by myself I used Rubbermaid totes with some blankets on top to hold the bumper close to position.

Did you check your tailgate clearance against the bumper when open? Mine was incredibly close to touching the bumper.

 

Week of installs and upgrades for this Taco.

Two big ones (yesterday) but finished up late so I couldn't get any good pictures. Alltop soft-shell RTT on my bed bars installed. I was hoping to get to use it this weekend, but it looks like they're calling for almost an inch of rain so I think I'll hold off until next weekend.


Second one was the AllPro Offroad bumper with bull bar - can confirm it doesn't affect TSS sensor even with Pro grill. I moved my hidden light bar down to the bumper and it fits perfect. Just need to figure out what I'm doing for a winch and I'll be sitting pretty!

Just doing a bit of saving before I end up buying the bed rack to attach to the KBVoodoo VRS base rails, I really want to get aluminum (pricey but worth it) since I'm sure I'll pack the bed full of heavy gear and can use all the weight savings I can get. Otherwise, truck is doing great, just rolled over 10k and did my 2nd oil change this past weekend.

 

I did, it has room. I had to mess with it a little bit before I tightened it up but it was pretty easy to align.

Super Exciting...not...Carhartt Seat Cover. I've not had cloth seats in years and have gotten tired of having to vacuum them every time I get groceries or put luggage back there. They collect debris like they are adhesive material.

 

My best truck by a long shot was my 1986 Ford F150 4x4.

300ci, straight 6, 4 spd stick and manual hubs. Steel floors, steel inside door panels, steel interior ceiling above your head, and no A/C.

Bench seat which came in handy. No freaking computers!

In 13 years replaced one clutch, a radiator, and one inner needle bearing.

Never left me stuck. About 250 offroad trips throughout BC with that truck. It took a beating. Paid $14K brand new, sold it for $5K. Basically a stock truck, still ran like new after 13 years, but we moved into Vancouver and offroad trips became scarce so I sold it and bought a car for city driving.

If they still made a plain bare bones truck like that with no computers, I would sell my Taco (or any modern pickup) to buy another. Ain’t gonna happen.

I would not buy a new full size pickup from any brand out there.
