2006 Tacoma 2.7 regular cab. I've had an idle problem since I bought the truck, it runs and drives just fine. When sitting, my rpms will jump up and down about 5 times between 1000 and 500 then settle back down at about 750 for a minute or so. I've went over everything and even went to the dealership thinking they would have a clue but kinda got the "I don't want to screw with it" attitude. From what I've gathered from online forums the best answer I've got is "it's normal". Doubt it, any ideas?

Yup, it's normal. Mine has been doing this since day 1 I bought it new back in 2010

As long as it doesn't drop below 500rpm, you're fine.

It drops to about 500 and feels like it's about to stall. Already cleaned everything, that's what the guy at the dealership said but no fix. I keep hearing it's normal, maybe one day someone will figure it out or explain why it does it

Were you able to figure out the low rough idle. My father in law just gifted us his 2006 2.7. Idles high at startup and then quickly drops while in park. Then while in gear sitting at a light, rpms drop and it vibrates pretty good.

Just jumping in to let you know I've got the same issue. Basic stuff is checking intake and for vacuum leaks. Pcv is worth inspecting, and you can swap your air filter, spark plugs.. I'm waiting on ignition coils presently. I ordered some "premium" hitachi ones. Figure if they can set themselves up as a go-to brand for women's personal massagers, an ignition coil should be a piece of cake.

My hunches thus far have been exhaust (it had leaks and rust, so I swapped everything after the header), timing - timing turned out to be fine, although the "balance shaft chain" guides were nearly worn through. Setting that up proper changed the vibration, maybe made it worse.. but I did damage the harmonic balancer a tidbit. I suppose that's still a possible.. but yeah, next up is ignition coils. then I guess the harmonic balancer, then all that's left is to take the head apart.

@DirtJumper14 I'll have the coils in a few days and I'll post up to let you know if it works. ****in every mechanic told me "it's a truck, it vibrates". I can hear it stumble/miss every now and then, super quiet and mild-like.

If you get any slick ideas or solutions, be a champion and let me know, yeah? It'd be a godsend.
