    Amazon and other in-city delivery services make extensive use of them. But then they can schedule routes to 250 miles daily maximum.

    I still hold that Mr. Fusion is needed for driving electric any real distance outside a city.

    :confused::confused:
    i don’t really want to get into a pissing match with anyone over electric vehicles but they take forever to charge, horrible for the environment, the battery is insanely expensive to replace, mileage is severely reduced in winter, resale value is terrible, apparently they have more problems per 100 than the most unreliable gas vehicles, I don’t like owning anything that can be hacked or shut off remotely, they burst into flame if they get a little wet and are insanely hard to put out.

    people say I’m nuts for dumping $25,000 to completely rebuilt a truck with a good body and instead want me to buy or build a vehicle where the battery alone will cost up to $65,000 to replace.

    I am not defending EVs. They have severe limitations. I just observed that Amazon and others are taking the hit right now keeping the vehicle segment going while all the problems work out.

    I am extremely concerned that places like CommieFornia plan on banning the sale of any ICE by the year 2035 or something like that. Some (most?) circumstances require easily-refueled vehicles.

    Honestly, spending like 7 or 10k on a new engine for a truck you've cared for seriously and replaced parts with oem toyota parts over its lifetime is a wise investment vs buying a brand new vehicle at $40k ++++

    The resale value on the vehicle will remain high, too.

    But if the truck was rusty and beat up etc and broken parts had been replaced with all cheap aftermarket mystery parts, it would be a bad idea

    You obviously enjoy your truck and most importantly you also enjoy maintaining it. I say go for the rebuild when it's needed and you're ready! Sure there is some risk involved but IMO that is part of the experience. The satisfaction you get from keeping your old friend working and on the road is fantastic!

    My friend and I rebuilt my 2000 S10 ZR2 5 years ago, body rusted out and there were problems all over so damn near everything got replaced. We made a list and dealt with it one by one, I figure it cost right around $12,000. His friends would stop by to see the progress and we heard everything from "you're wasting your time, that thing is worthless, waste of money, etc etc".

    When we were close to being done that changed to "wow, want to sell that?" No you feckhead, I don't!

    5 years and 53,000 miles later the old S10 is still on the job, I drive it all winter to keep the salt off my Tacoma and it splits truck jobs with the Tacoma the rest of the time. It has long since paid for it's self, twice now since the last time I made a payment on it was sometime in 2003. If you have the time money and skills do it, ignore the people who say not to. They will never know how good it feels to complete a project that takes so much planning and effort to accomplish!
