I don’t think Toyota will care much at all. When did they suddenly start caring about their customers? They just want to get it fixed and move on from the bad publicity. It’s damage control.

The new engine certainly makes much more torque. But not much torque is delivered through the drive line when there's nearly zero friction on the surface.

My initial thought when I saw the video, was that an axle failed, because sawing the steering wheel back and forth whilst spinning the tires is really tough on the front axles....but, then again not much torque going on.....

That diff is likely going straight home and unopened to Toyota for dis-assembly/and forensic examination.

I seriously doubt they'd allow anyone to take it apart before it's gets back to them.

As someone that has worked in the automotive service field for 45 years, 20 of those at the dealership level, I certainly think Toyota does care. It has nothing to do with caring about customers. The reason they care is financially based. Can you imagine what it would cost Toyota if say even 10% of front differentials failed and needed to be replaced under warranty? They most certainly will care about what failed and why and make any changes as necessary. Don’t hold your breath waiting for them to tell TFL, TacomaWorld or anybody else what happened inside that differential except maybe in general terms.

It's bad publicity when a recall is issued. Now it's just bone heads speculating on why a part failed.

I think a half million people watching the TFL video is pretty bad publicity.

If they handle this repair right it could be good publicity.

Doubtful. The damage has already been done by showing the truck break on such a tiny obstacle.

The video did make me glad that I bought a 3G instead of a 4G

If I disagreed with you any stronger, my head would explode lol.

I personally think they are very interested, especially since Sheldon is on the case it seems to be proven Toyota does in fact, care a bunch.

I feel robbed since when I had issues with my truck, I never got Seat Belt Mike to dig into it.

The only reason they care is because it happened to TFL. Anyone else and they would give a shit. It’s pretty obvious from how they have handled other issues like frame rust, tundra engines, etc.

..but they do care... I agree for the record about why they care. I disagreed with you saying Toyota didn't care.

I think they care a lot. And when you or I do the same thing.... they won't care at all lol.

If TFL was worth a shit, they'd get underneath the truck and find out what happened themselves. Aren't they truck guys? They have tools right?

Posting a video with the title "our new Tacoma broke!" and then not even trying to dig into it and find out for themselves shows they're only interested in click-bait titles. Yawn..

They’re going to let warranty handle it instead. If they dug into it they would most likely not get it covered by warranty.

Agree, but one issue is parts are sparse for replacement on new models, so they would out a click bait truck for months.

Likely Toyota will escalate this case and get it fixed because of the spot light.

Some Tundras took months to get fixed on the first run.

I think its crazy how some techs share photos of these failures when we really shouldnt be for numerous reasons. Privacy is my biggest reason.

I typically share photos of out of warranty vehicles with nothing indicating whos truck it is.

They did look into it and determined it’s inside the transfer case. Why would they disassemble that on a truck under warranty?

If the truck takes months to get the parts for, it will give them great material to make and update telling everyone to not break their truck because it will take forever to get it back. It is a win win..

Aren't they ballin out with subscribers and views? Just expense that shit, make an investigation video and show us you know what you're talking about

A good video with a detailed explanation would get more than enough views to cover whatever a new diff costs.

As a metallurgist, Toyota will certainly look at the parts that broke and check the hardness, some parts might be case hardened, some hardened the entire way through, parts might have failed due to improper heat treatment hardening process. After you harden a piece of steel you draw it back so it's not as brittle. Hardness of steel is checked with a hardness tester in Rockwell's. Also what type of steel was used to make the part that failed is also very important. A part like a splined shaft should have some flex when a torque is applied, otherwise the part could snap in half. In the end part must be tough, resistant to shock and also wear resistant. Using Solid Modeling software, engineers can design and test the strength and limits of a part before part is even machined, all big companies use Solid Modeling nowadays so It's a given that part is robust enough if made correctly in the first place. In the end the true test is actually using the Tacoma in real world situations. We could see other 2024 Tacoma front diffs fail or this could be an isolated case. Only time and testing will reveal why front diff failed. So give Toyota some time, could take months before we really know why, we might never know at all.
