Yes I do. If you don't pull up on it perfectly straight it can bind. I've thought about waxing the guide rods and seeing if that might help. I dont have any issues on the down, just the up. But I think it's still worth the 30 bucks I paid for it. It's rare that I would even need a drill guide like this so I think it's still a good tool for the money. It has kept me relatively straight with the gazillion holes I'm drilling. It does work better with the forstner bit too. Are there better ones out there? Sure there are, but for the money you can't beat this thing.

Wax is a better choice. The oil, being wet, will attract sawdust. The wax is dry, so sawdust will collect at a slower rate.

    The Clipboard of Fun.

I ended up drilling and installing rare-earth magnets in the back so it sticks to the refrigerator. I'm making a few more for family members. Padauk, Walnut, Honduran Mahogany oak, maple, and a Black Palm edge. Oh....and I hand bent a torsion spring out of a straight piece of spring steel.

The scroll saw work for the letters on this one didn't come out great. I'm going to set the next ones up on my mill and try to do a better job.

Many new refrigerators are non-magnetic. Go figure ...

As to scrollwork ... try drilling holes at the main junctures/corners/bends. Even if a circle does not quite make a 90 degree corner, it gives a ramp-in point to slowly shave the extreme points. Here is a picture of a serving tray, with the main radii being pre-drilled with a 1-inch spade-bit to limit the amount of required maneuvering with other saws. This was a dry-fit, before I cleaned up the radii.

Not a lot to show today. After work I pulled the dado stack out of the table saw and installed a combination blade. Then I cut a couple of test tennons for fitting into the mortices. Much easier to handle these short pieces rather than a whole stretcher and raising and lowering the 70lb legs to check the fit.
I made these from the cutoffs from the stretchers.
    20240305_183215.jpg
It will be much easier to fit these as I am chiseling out the rest of the waste in the mortices
    20240305_183513.jpg
Then I installed a new Freud forstner bit into the drilling jig. And I waxed the guide rods to see if it helps with stiction.

Yeah. It’s going to be easier to set it up on a rotary table on my mill and cut them 3 at a time withe a router bit….AND my scroll saw quit on me. I think the motor capacitor needs replaced. Going to have to get into it and do some testing.

Congrats! That's a great looking saw, really happy for you. I'm still kind one handed, my thumb is still healing.

I was going to purchase a CNC last Black Friday and decide against it. Those funds went to the band saw and these two upgrades.

JessEm router table and lift. I order this almost 6 weeks ago. Got it assemble today. The plan is to build it out in the near future with shelves and drawers. This is replacing my old bench top Bosh setup.

Bauer 12” drill press. 10% off HF coupon last weekend. My old drill press was a floor model that was free from a neighbor that was moving. It was a piece of junk and is now free for the taking if anyone in my area is interested. I mounted it and the mortiser that I recently score for free to my old router table cart.

Still room for my wife to park inside.

I have surgery on my left hand tomorrow, so about 4-5 weeks to plan my next furniture project.

Very cool. Once my bench is done I plan to mount 3 routers in my outfeed tables. This way once I set up bits for frame and panel doors I won't have to break them down.

No shop time for me yesterday. I had a severe muscle cramp in my butt cheek that actually pulled the muscle, made it hard to walk let alone bend over. Getting old sucks! Lol. It's still sore today.

Let's see, no woodworking yesterday, had to go buy a new washer and dryer that will be delivered on Saturday and cut into my shop time.
No wood working today because I spent time going to the local police station to apply for a firearm purchase permit and then had to go and get the application notarized. Then went and ordered the gun. What a p.i.t.a. Criminals won't go through all this b.s.
