It's a 1x fee for the Toyota specific PIDs for Fusion, I think $15 now. I use the Carista OBD scanner which I purchased from Amazon, but I think there are a bunch of scanners that work with OBD Fusion. Veepeak is another that works with OBD Fusion (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073XKQQQW?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details). If you go with Carista, you don't need to download the Carista app or pay the Carista service.

For me, it's replaced the need to buy a scanguage. Plus, there's no real installation / mounting that I need to worry about. Through Carplay, I just connect to the scanner and it pulls up my list of PIDs to monitor live. At first, there were a few bugs in the Fusion app, but the devs were quick to fix them. No issues since they've updated the app a few weeks ago.

My primary concern with ScanGauge is leaving it connected in a nice location, then have it stolen by the endless number of thieves working here in CA.
I'd just as soon find something that works reliably with an iPhone 13 Pro, as I don't need to watch it constantly.

I just got the Veepeak dongle, and I love it. Below is a screenshot after I spent a few minutes setting it up. (I like concise numbers, as you can tell. No gauges or graphs.) .
Can anyone point me to a guide on the various Toyota PIDs? Many of them have pretty vague descriptions or none at all.

    Nicely done.
    Q: what app is this?

I have the Veepeak BLE+ in combination with OBD Fusion

    Thank you for the links!
I paid 5$ for the OBD Fusion app, and put it on my phone and tablet ($10 total), and bought the Toyota/Scion/Lexus extended PIDs for $14, and only had to buy it once, and use it on both devices.

Sadly, OBD Fusion only has data up to 2021.
    I reached out to them:

    Hello,

Unfortunately, we currently only have data from Toyota up to 2021 model year vehicles.
I am looking at getting data on newer Toyota vehicles, but Toyota changed their licensing for data and it has been much more difficult to get the data.

    Regards,

    Matt

use 2021. When setting up the app, add your truck as 2021 model. There is no difference between 2021 and 2023 models in ECU and TCU modules

I figured as much but the responder didn't bother to tell me that.

Five seconds of Googling brought this up:

    3.5-Liter V-6 (278 Horsepower, 265 Pounds-Feet of Torque)
The 2023 Tacoma’s 3.5-liter V-6 is optional on all trim levels and standard on all but the base SR and SR5. It is offered with RWD or 4WD and a six-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed manual (TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro only). The maximum V-6 rating is 6,800 pounds with the RWD Access Cab trucks available in the lower three trims: SR, SR5 and TRD Sport. The next-highest maximum for the V-6 is 6,700 pounds for the RWD double cabs with the automatic and the 5-foot short bed that is available for the SR5, TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road. The third-highest rating is 6,600 pounds for the RWD double cab trucks with the automatic, which can be had in three trim-level configurations: long-bed versions of the SR5 and TRD Sport and the short-bed Limited.

I think that if he keeps an eye on his temps, he'll be fine. I towed a 3900 lb trailer with my 2008 2.7L from Maine to Idaho with no problems whatsoever, although some of those hills going over the Divide sucked.

I am told that if the combined trailer + truck weight exceeds the published GVWR, the insurance company can cancel your policy if you get into an accident.

Care to elaborate? All the info I dug up pointed to around 6000+ lbs max towing weight for the V6, 6-speed AT. Am I misreading this, and thus mistaken? It wouldn't be the first time, and if so, I humbly apologize. The guy has a 4000 lb gross weight trailer with brakes. No way is he exceeding the GCWR unless he has a bed full of gold ingots.

I reached out to OTT and was told their tune is smog legal in 49 states, California CARB approval pending in a few months.
As such, I will hold off until it is CARB approved.

OTT is out of stock on the DIY flash kits, so one has to buy from VFTuner for $399, plus $325 for the tune itself.
A bit steep for a one-off tune, but does offer a DIY method to flash back to factory ECU.

I'm thinking of having this done for my truck. There are 2 places not too far from me. It's not a big priority, as overall, I'm satisfied with the tranny performance. There are just 2 things that bother me, one, is when going down a steep hill, the transmission will sometimes downshift, causing the engine to race up to 4000 rpm, and the other is something mentioned often here, that is, on the freeway, when I go to pass someone, it will suddenly downshift, again causing the engine to race...and I don't have to press the gas pedal much , either. The software guy that wrote those parameters oghta have every OTT tune deducted from his paycheck.
