Awesome. You're a good man. I show him the letters from the dealership: "Mr xxxx, we're interested in your Camry and can make you a very good offer on a trade for a new Toyota...: they quote an actual price that's about spot on and fair. I leave the letter with the keys and the the service invoice. He always has a leg up on me though: "Go for it... and then keep it. Explain that to my daughter.... excuse me: Your WIFE...:  Uh-oh! These old Korean and WWII Veterans are tough birds. Nothing rattles them.

I won't let the dealer do squat to my 2021. I have used YotoPros since I bought mine new. Good people, good work, reasonable price.
If you find yourself needing something and don't want to pay dealer prices check them out.
They are in Tempe, 7144 S Priest Drive ... near I10 and Elliot... I live close by so it's a breeze to get over there.

I have a good dealer. They screwed up and lost/left behind the oil fill cap gasket one time, and I caught it because I lift the hood and check things out before I drive off.

No charge oil change twice after that when I pointed it out... Didn't even have to raise my voice, but I strongly suspect I'm in the computer now. Karma :pccoffee:

Sorry it has taken me so long to respond! (and for gym class) ;) The "battle" with us is one of: "months vs miles", meaning we're coming up to fall so about twelve months since it was last changed. I'm certain he has put less than 4,000 miles on it and almost all short trips, so IMO opinion: it's time. 6 months/5,000 miles is my personal standard (and the "Car Care Nut" and that comes to late fall and early spring for me. (+-10k avg per year now) I'm never going to close that sale with him... so I have them put synthetic oil in it at the dealer so it also gets an OEM filter. If I don't pay attention, he'd slip it to 7,500 which is too long: he'd end up with an oil burner.

I bought my 2021 new and utilized the 2yr/25K ToyotaCare--5 visits overall.

5K--Tire Rotation, Fluid Checks and other diagnostics
    10K--Oil Change
15K--Tire Rotation, Fluid Checks and other diagnostics
    20K--Oil Change
25K--Tire Rotation, Fluid Checks and other diagnostics

Tire rotation, fluid checks and other diagnostics were done with oil changes.

I paid for the oil change at 5K visit since the dealership said it wasn't included in the ToyotaCare schedule.

The rest of the oil changes were done by me at 5K intervals.

My Sport has the TRD Skid plate, Fumoto Valve, Aluminum Housing & MotivX Kit.

I'm retired military and utilize the base Auto Hobby Shop to do my oil changes...which are much easier with the items I listed.

I plan on doing my every 5 k. Got one more year of car care on my Taco. I’m way under 5k per year. Just did the Mrs. Rx350. I can vouch for the Motix 2350 oil wrench. No issues. Pretty simple with no skid plate to remove.

He lives in the suburbs but it's all short trips. One positive thing (maybe) is he doesn't particularly drive like a slow poke. I usually manage to get it in at around 7,500 miles and have them use synthetic in it. I tell him I'm going out to get a pizza when it's time;), but it doesn't fool him. ;)

I use to use the Motovix tool also and it was great. I then had an idea to do my oil changes with NO TOOLS. Much easier now.

The Fumoto / Baxter Performance combo. Ball valve to drain the oil and a spin on filter located up in the engine bay. Easy peasy.Screenshot 2024-09-13 at 8.21.23 PM.png

If you plan on keeping your truck for years to come… Change it every 5k at minimum. Pay them in between. The Toyota and Honda dealerships are funny with this. But you pay for 5k and 15k. They’ll pay at 10k and 20k. Don’t skimp on this one. They don’t care how long you keep your truck.

if you plan on driving it for a few years and trading. Change it at 10k.

    I like the song...

I'm from L.A. but never been to 29 Palms.

If you're asking where the Auto Hobby Shop is located, it's on Dover AFB, Delaware.

Going to keep your truck many years? I recommend change the air filter when it’s dirty, look under it and vacuum the dirt & debris out of the air box. A dirty air filter will look rather clean on top not showing any dirt at all, discolored on the bottom. This is really important since the air is the main contributor to the oil turning black.

Using Mobil 1 synthetic myself, I don’t change the oil by miles but by how dirty it looks. Basically if the oil begins to become dark I go ahead & change it.

Keep in mind the synthetic lubricant doesn’t darken as quickly as conventional oil & also does not break down from sitting in the oil pan.

You might say that seems like it would be expensive, yes it is kind of but my truck was purchased with near 50,000 miles on it. It now has 199,000+ miles on it and runs as good as the day I bought it.

Using 5w 30 the entire time I just recently seen where some vehicles call for 0w 20, I wonder why they changed after all these years & some of the reason could be because many people do not change their oil like they should. Dirty oil is obviously thicker due to the contaminants so that in my opinion is something to consider. Just as dirty wheel bearings will eventually fail engine bearings are really no different, the contaminants can & will speed up the engine failure rate.

I have seen people post a Tacoma is good for 300,000 miles but I know of one that had well over 400,000 on it and it still runs well. Don’t you just love a Toyota? :)
