2018 Tacoma TRD off road. While installing a metal bumper I noticed this empty plug. What does it go to? I didn’t have time to chase. It’s on the driver side.

Just a guess. Was thinking the wiring is already there, even if the option isn't. Someone on here knows, & will let you know.

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
You seen that "Drain the Oceans" show on Nat Geo?

    That's the plug they pull.....

I hit the plug with a volt meter and its all the tail lights but when i talked to the people at the dealership they said it doesn’t show in the diagram and there’s no plug for it in their system so i guess cut and splice additional rear lights if you want. You will just have to ground to the frame due to there not being a ground pin (there might be a ground with a female to match layout of 4 pin plug) i am going to use it to add a 4 pin trailer connector due to my truck not coming with one, i was also going to wire a light strip under my tailgate into it. Due to it being unused you can use it for anything that needs to connect to the light system to avoid tearing the back end of the truck apart.

Guess it depends on tech package.

Correct & the wiring harness is there, regardless of individual tech features

Is it where bed lights plug in if you have them or add them?

Yes but there is no plug for it (it reads as tail lights on volt meter)

If I remember and have time I’ll look under mine and see if I can trace some wires!

OP: How many contacts are in that connector? From the picture I would say only two! If so, it is not BSM.

Maybe you can attach a strobe light bar and mount to your bumper and flash it when people drive too close ?
