Wheel fitment for my Taco

Hey gang,

Been awhile since I have posted. I'm looking to buy some Forerunner wheels for my Tacoma.

Question:

Can anyone tell me if 2003 Forerunner 17" wheels will fit my 03 Tacoma prerunner 2wd? Both are 2wd, lug pattern the same, 6-lug. The seller tells me the wheels are not TRD pro model so that is a good thing.

Has anyone actually done this before???

Read through this thread to see if anyone has posted the same wheels you're looking at.
It's pretty likely they will fit, but can't guarantee it until you find someone doing it, I currently run the TRD Pro 4Runner wheels.

Do you happen to have a photo of said 2003 4Runner 17" wheels? Might help someone chime in who has them on their Tacoma. Picture worth a 1000 words and all that...

2005-2015 Tacoma Sport wheels than '03 4Runner wheels. I don't think Toyota offered anything like that in 2003 despite what the FB ad says (although the ad just says they came off a 2003 4Runner, so someone else probably did the swap).



But they should still work.

 

No issues with rubbing, or are you on small tires? One site says that an '03 4runner 17 inch wheel is 7.5" wide, 30 offset. That makes it almost 5.5" back spacing which is a almost a full inch more than the OE Tacoma wheel.

Gen1, I am running Yokohamas which I believe are just I little bigger than stock. I don't understand backspacing? Is what you are saying a good thing??

It's definitely a 1st gen.

 

Not just a 1st gen, its the best kind of 1st gen...

 

More backspacing puts the wheel/tire inward towards the frame. That can cause frame rub. So a wheel with more BS than stock isn't necessarily good, but also might not be bad depending on tire size.

 

According to ads for that wheel, it's an aluminum 7.5" wide wheel, with 30mm offset, which equates to somewhere around 5.75" of backspace.

 

Is that 5.75 backspace gonna cause a tite rub??

 

Someone who knows more than I will have to speak to that. I only run stock wheels on my Tacoma & 4Runner

 

The owner who was supposedly holding them for me just sold them. Guess we'll never know

 

At 5.75" BS I have a feeling you would've ended up needing spacers anyway.

If you're looking for value, I ran 3rd gen TRD offroad Tacoma wheels for years. When the tires wore out I would just pick up another set of take offs from Facebook. Instead of spending $1000 on tires, I would just buy a set with decent tires for ~800, sell my worn out wheels and tires for 500 and keep on rollin.
Now that I have the TRD Pro wheels I'll have to actually buy tires again, since they're not nearly as easy to find cheap takeoffs. But the tires that came on this set still have a couple years of life yet
