Some kid accidentally backed into my bumper cap yesterday morning pulling out of a parking space. Looks like the cap is just scratched so I was thinking of just replacing the cap myself. My concern comes from an autobody guy I know telling me I'll need to recalibrate my BSM sensor. Is there any truth to this?

I had a cap get damaged by a trailer mishap a couple years ago.
after they repaired the damaged bumper cap, they just plugged the sensor back in.
no recalibration, seems he's telling a tale.

Generally this. Even with the windshield sensor. I replaced 3 windshields so far and never needed calibration even though the dealership would charge you hundreds of dollars to do so.

Thanks for the insight! I figured since it was just a radar thing this shouldn't be an issue.

You shouldn't even have to touch BSM, when replacing bumper cap.

If you are going to replace the bumper cap yourself, check out post #22 for good writeup. Post #5 has an exploded view of parts.
