I know there's several posts about this topic but I can't find one that is specific to my truck I've got a 03 Tacoma double cab v6 4x4 with auto trans and J style 4x4 I've had it up on blocks put in four wheel drive transfer case goes into gear front drive shaft spins front diff does not lock in I bought a new actuator did not fully install it just plugged it in had someone in the truck when they turned the key on I got a slight buzz in the actuator but when they shifted it into 4H-4L nothing happened with the actuator also want to add that I have the RR diff lock and I am able to put the truck in 4L and engage the rear locker so I'm at a loss for what to do next

I had that happen to me last year, same symptoms...

Bad 4x4 vacuum solenoid switch. Look in the engine bay, driver's side fender, under the fuse box, you will see two solenoids (one blue and one red). The red one engages the front actuator and the blue one disengages it. The red one has failed

    red solenoid - 25860-62010

blue solenoid - 90910-12109 (sometimes listed as 90910-12073 or 90910-12271)

OP has an '03 with electronic ADD, not vacuum-actuated ADD. So no vacuum solenoid switch to replace.

More than likely going to be a transfer position indicator switch on the Tcase not telling the 4wd ECU that 4wd is engaged (at least at the tcase), thereby inhibiting signal to front diff electronic actuator to engage.

    Ah yes, my bad :anonymous:
By the way, what year did they stop making the vacuum actuated 4wd?

Yeah, I agree with a bad position switch too

I think 2000 was the last year of the vacuum ADD, but don't quote me on that
