Has anyone had problems fitting an aftermarket front skid? I'm wondering if there are variations in the design of the truck from one year to the other, even within 3rd gen models. The question is at the two bolt holes next to the differential brackets.

I bought full skids, and the front would not fit. One skid bracket next to the oil change door was conflicting with the diff bracket (driver side). I had to hack up the skid bracket and waller out the slotted hole to get it to fit.

They sent me a new skid, and same problem, and they seem to be stumped. They are even asking me if something on my truck is bent or damaged, but it has just over 20k miles and has never seen any real off road (yet). No accidents or any reason to question the truck really.

I've measured the slotted holes in the skid, and they are 14 5/8" right-to-right or center-to-center. See images.

    Any help or advice? Thoughts?

    Yeah.
I looked at mine and it looks the same as yours. I'd measure, but I can't get in there without removing stuff. I don't think they would make changes between years on a certain generation, and they didn't even change much from 2nd to 3rd gen. Not sure who you got the skids from, but it sounds like they have never test fit their design on a 3rd gen or their welding jigs are messed up.

Thanks for input. They do sell the skid as 2005-2023, so I assumed those models all had same bolt holes and diff bracket locations.

Skids are from Caliraised. I have seen that they are not very well respected on this forum, but is what I have now. They've been very good to work with as far as quickly sending me a replacement, but I am really beginning to question how they could have this kind of problem and not have a clue how it happened. Have they never sold a Tacoma front skid? Starting to think I need to send the entire set of skids back and buy from someone else. I'm in Arkansas so Backwoods Adventure Mods is appealing to me. At least w them I could drive to their shop and show them the issue.

    Yeah.
Well, howdy, neighbor. I have the Backwoods front and rear bumper -- they are great to work with and I didn't have to deal with freight costs. But they don't have full skids available as far as I know, just a connector piece to go with their front bumper (I didn't purchase that). In the pics it looks like they have made a skid, but they don't have anything listed on their site.

I am in central AR, so sort of neighbor. By the way, our MTB trails are better than your MTB trails. Haha!

I am looking at Backwoods site now and realizing skids are not an option. I may end up with their rear bumper eventually.

Gotta figure out what is going on w this skid first. I figure this is not the first time this has happened. Either that or Toyota designed my truck w special dimensions just for me. :)
