Hmm... I don't accept that map at all, even as geographic regions.

People in the Rocky Mountain West states don't readily identify with the Pacific Coast states.
Quite the opposite actually.

Texas and Oklahoma are kind of their own thing, not really Southern.

The old Border states of Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland and Delaware are not really Southern either.

At least half of Pennsylvania is more like the Midwest and takes umbrage at being linked to New York and/or New Jersey
