I’ve got about 12k miles on my ‘21 taco. Today, I noticed a quiet semi-high-pitched fan sound coming from the center of the dash, right behind the screen. The sound continued for about 10 seconds after I’d turned the truck off. I’ve never heard it before and it happened twice. Any ideas?

The head unit has a fan (and likely a heat sink) to keep the components within operating temperature.

Since I’ve never heard that fan before (and earlier this month I spent some time in some really hot places like Phoenix and Palo Duro Canyon) I’m wondering if the heat syncs or the fan need cleaning or something. Is that part of the regular maintenance on these trucks?

Not part of regular maintenance, but chances are the fan bearings are failing. I would pop the radio out, turn on the truck and verify thats the sound. Then take it into the dealer and get a new radio under warranty.

Like TacoMabo said, the Head Unit has a fan. I hear the one on my ‘20 running sporadically. To my knowledge there is no maintenance required ever.

No - In fact, I'd completely forgotten about this. I stopped investigating after the responses in this thread and haven't had any issues at all. I never was able to specifically link it to hot weather or any other thing. If yours is just a pretty quiet fan-like sound, it's probably the same thing, and probably nothing to be concerned about.

Geez I live in Phoenix where summer temps hit 2,500 degrees ( or there-abouts ) and haven't heard this myself in my 2021.

Does your fan noise sound like the audio in the post #1 video?

Phoenix is on a different temperature scale than the rest of us. I thought it was hot here in Houston (mainly it's just muggy) until we visited family in Phoenix several years ago. We arrived at midnight and it was still 98 degrees outside.

Only 98? We'd be getting the sweaters out for that chilly of a temp.
