I'm not selling it. Still have the rear end to do. The only way I let it go is if the right Land cruiser comes up 78 series with the turbo diesel, a well priced 190E 2.3 Evo 1 or a well priced 1990 560 SEC AMG. Chances are super slim any of those come up an affordable range.

The new GXs are real nice with some sweet tech. Was in one recently at the Destination Off-road event. I wouldn't want it on any rides that we do, its way to nice and expensive.

I saw once done poorly but the idea was there. Someone took a ford long bed, the really long one. They removed the bed and installed an enclosed trailer on the frame. Then you would be building out the trailer how you want it. Much cheaper option if you're dead set on a camping rig. The wheel wells lined up, it was interesting. Great idea, poor execution.

Have seen something similar, do that or just buy a box truck or van. Motorcycle buddy of mine uses 2WD Mitsubishi Fuso that he picked up for $20K, uses it as a base camp, because in reality those massive 4WD expedition rigs aren’t going off the beaten path very far. Uses the bikes to get in much deeper than any 4WD vehicle could dream of.

Like those Airstreams, super nice, but in reality do I really want to drag it down the dirt roads I like to frequent?

That is exactly what I think about when I see those massive rigs. It's all paid campsites or spots that are easy to get too. While I enjoy the national parks and the showers at paid easy camp sites. I find it much more fun getting into campsites that are difficult to get too. The ones you have to earn. Most of the crew is of a similar belief. We want a good mix of wheeling, technical challenges and then a sick campsite. Makes for a great day and an even better fire pit hang at night.

When we go out for weeks at a time we try to do a mix of mostly primitive, 1 or 2 paid camp sites and then a 1 or 2 day Airbnb rental in the middle of the trip so we can all refresh, wash clothes and have at least one night out at the local spots. Has worked perfect for us.
