Hey I got a 3.4L Tacoma and my truck started making a weird whirling noise under the hood. Any Ideas?

I honestly think it might just be one of those "old age" noises...

The noise does increase when the rpm is increasing as well

Sounds like my idler pulley bearing when it went bad. Increased with RPM too. Pretty easy and cheap fix, might as well replace the belt too.

They go bad with age/mileage, and they also don't like being dunked in water if you've done any water crossings lately.

With 264k you may as well replace as much stuff as you can.I just replaced all my belts, tensioners, and harmonic balancer on my truck. She purs like a kitten only have 122,000 miles but I needed a balancer anyway so figured may as well change it all

Thanks to you all, I replaced my idler pulley from autozone after work and the noise is gone now.

It’s a small black pulley in the front bottom of the engine. Just gotta take the belt off and then one bolt hold it in

As others have said it's almost always those two parts, and they're stupid easy to test.

Grab the fan and check for wobble/clunk sound on the clutch, and spin it by hand and see if there's any noise or free spin.

Idler pulley just break free the center bolt, detension the belt with the adjuster bolt under it, pull the belt loose, and check it for wobble and spin test for noise.
