My recently purchased stock 2021 Gen 3 4X4 SR Tacoma is primed and ready for some upgrades. A tire & wheel upgrade is on my to do list but I am unfortunately not well versed in this particular subject :/

I am not really thinking of doing a lift on the truck on any crazy upgrades to the suspension, so i have decided that i want to try and go with 255/85/R16s as they seem to fit without the need to modify the wheel well or any other major component. i would like to get some black after market steel wheels with caps,

    Like these. https://www.discounttire.com/buy-wheels/vision-soft-8

    upload_2024-3-18_12-47-37.png

but unfortunally dont know anything in regards to selecting the correct ones.

As i understand it the stock steel ones i have are 16 x 7 with a 6 x 139.7 bolt pattern (correct me if im wrong) and i have no clue what the stock off set is.

assuming the 255/85/R16 tires size, do i just go with the same measurements as the stock wheel or is there a ideal wheel for that particular tire on the Gen 3 Tacoma?

if possible if you can recommend a particular set that would be great.

What engine in your SR? Is it the 2.7?

If you have the 4cyl, forget steel rims and spend extra $$ for some lighter wheels. Your driving experience and gas mileage will thank you

Some like the look and some don't. Love my steel wheels. Got them from Rough Country, of all companies. With steelies you need to be careful about caliper clearance. Not a lot of them will fit. Here's my SR with 17x9 -12 steel wheels.

If you currently don't have steel wheels then you will need to get new tpms sensors as well.

I suggest finding a set of Toyota alloy wheels in a style you like, then paint them black. They should be inexpensive if you get them as take offs. So much so you could have them lightly bead blasted as prep for your paint work if you wished.

They will fit properly, be lighter and alloys actually are durable. The weight matters, because most tires in that size are heavy E loads (10 ply) and unsprung weight is good to avoid.

Congratulations for going with an option that skips the lifting and cutting!

Will these work? they are alloy wheels more or less in the style im looking at. Again im not sure about anything regarding the offset. this has a -12 so i assume the are slightly pushed out. dont know how that would affect the 255/85/r16s
