You want to spend $50K on a new truck so you can save money on tires? o_O

I think he was referring to a 23 as said something about 381,000 being on the road.

Meso spare fuse holder. Aluminum gas cap holder. Genuine Toyota bed lights. Bed molle racks. Ammo case storage under hood. In-bed spare tire. Automatic underhood lights. Gooey glurp on frame.
LOL. Nicely said! Part of the issue is driving X or 45X miles on an undersized spare, potentially bollixing up the transfer case. In some parts of North America, tire stores are not far apart. In the West and Southwest, places that sell tires can be hundreds of miles apart. They may or may not have the sizes needed in stock, and not necessarily in sets of four. Worse yet, a tire that would be, say, $150 each in a big town would be $250 in a town of 1500. The Outback I have does not have space for a full size spare that I can put into a five tire rotation.

I'm aware of the Subaru struggle ( we own one along with the tacoma) the tires while unfortunate having to buy a set (or 3 if you have certificates on one) If the tire issue was the main driver, I could probably work around it with something like this. Or 50K for another vehicle lol... Seriously unless you absolutely are stuck on having NEW or just like the new gen, I would probably look at a low mileage 3rd or even 2nd gen. Or put the purchase on pause until the 4th gen gets some miles and a couple of years under its belt. Especially if there is nothing wrong mechanically with your Outback.

Send it on a 4th gen. One thing that Toyota does better than most manufacturers is when they do have issues they work on getting the fixed quickly. Sure it’s the first year of the new generation and will have its growing pains, but so did every first year of the generations. Look at 2016 when the 3rd gen came out. I had a 2017 and a 2021 Tacoma and the only issue I had was the leaking 3rd brake light. But you can read plenty of post about people with blown motors. Look at when the 2nd gen tundra came out, they had issues too. Now they are considered one of the most reliable vehicles ever built. The 3rd gen tundra did have its problems and people love to remind everyone of spinning bearing issues, while that is an issue with early gens, there are plenty of 3rd gens drivings with no issues at all.

My best piece of advise is don’t read to much into the forums. You will drive yourself insane and worry about if you bought the right vehicle. People run to the forums when stuff goes wrong, rarely do we have people come to the forum to post their positive outlook on a vehicle or what is going right. Both my previous Tacomas never left me stranded and I needed a bigger bed and a large cab, so naturally I went with a 2024 tundra. Did I read all the issues people had, sure did. Was I worried about longevity? No. Cause at the end of the day every Toyota I have had has been solid and the new tech and power of the 3rd gun tundra has been amazing so far. Buy what you want and don’t let a bunch of strangers on the internet tell you what’s best. Life is to short to worry about that stuff, buy and drive, doesn’t work, trade in and move one.

I've barely done 8K a year since working from home 4 yrs ago, if I didn't go to events several times a week I'd probably be barely cracking 5k.

My mother leased a Honda CRV a few years ago and towards the end of the lease we went somewhere, she was nervous about the mileage and going over as she was nearly at 10K. After I stopped laughing I told her that's per year not 3 yrs.

Thinking about it, 4 years ago in March I had 109K on my truck and it just hit 139K. Part of that is Toyota had it for 3 months replacing the frame as well.

Can you fit a full size spare if you remove the foam tool holder? That worked with the Forrester we used to have.
FYI: The new Tacomas don’t come with a full size spare either.

Well, I bought one. It's a used 2023 TRD Off-Road model with V6 and electric seats. Beyond that, I am still figuring it out. It was originally a rental and has just under 13K miles on it. The more I drive it, the more I like it. The truck came with some things I expected and is lacking some other things. So there will be some upgrades in the future. I suspect most of my postings will be in a different forum.

According to the carfax, it had been used as a rental vehicle for a year. Dunno by whom.

My last Tacoma I bought from Earnhardt Toyota in Mesa and it was a good experience. I have bought from Riverview Toyota in Mesa as well. Bell Toyota was disappointing and I would avoid Larry Miller Toyota in Peoria altogether.

Maybe it was a Dealer Rental, I have usually only seen the 2 wheel drive Off Roads at Rental Agencies.

Very possible. Local dealer I buy used vehicles from has a whole lot of ex Avis rental TRD OR T4R's. Also have a 4WD SR5 Tacoma on the lot.

I rented a TRD OR from Enterprise a while back. It was at a time when many here were posting about long waits & deposits on Gen3’s, so I figured that Toyota must’ve been getting a sweet deal to sell fleet versus dealership customers.

Either way, the truck you got looks great, has full-size spare & power seats, plenty of extra cash left over to spend on extras. Congrats!

My 2017 RAV4 had 92K when I traded it in for a 2023 SR5 4X4 in January. Last on the lot.
