I have a '16 Tacoma. When I bought it a several years ago, the tires that were on the Tacoma were 305/55R20 (oversize tires). They were really nice tires but did rub some inside if I turned sharply. I kept the tire pressure around 30-32 psi.

Just a couple days ago, I got new tires due to the 305s being worn down and just time for new tires. I didn't want to deal with getting spacers for my oversize tires, so I decided to go down in size and now have 285/55R20. I no longer have the rub issues and they still look really good. Currently the tire pressure is around 40 psi.

Since I got the new tires, the tire pressure sensors are not working. After the new tires were put on, I saw the tech go to each tire and program/test the sensors. He said that one of the sensors was bad, so I got it replaced and program/tested. Even after this, the sensors are still not working. I have driven the Tacoma like the manual says to reset & even did the reset button with no luck.

I don't know if the sensors/truck are still programmed to the old tires (305), factory setting of cold tire pressure/size (265/65R17 at 29 psi), or other sensors are bad.

Any advice or thoughts would be grateful!

Is the warning light on, or does the pressure not show?

If it was working before its likely they broke one, and replaced it with an aftermarket sensor with only single band.

You need dual band sensors to register and read pressures.

I would go back where you got your new tires to have the tech re-read the sensors on the new tires and program them into the ECU.

That TPMS reset button is a farce. Once you’ve aired up/down your tire pressure to where you want, you press the TPMS button. That sets a baseline of where you ‘want the tire pressures to be’ - once the pressures are above or below that ‘baseline’ is when the TPMS lights come on.

Pressing that button does not magically read new sensors. That needs to be programmed in via OBD2 to the truck’s ECU with a TPMS reader/programmer - the one the tech was using hopefully.

Get a good (Not the crappy $3.00 ones where the plastic stick pops out like a Butterball turkey) gauge. Just live with that and don't spend a shit-ton of $$ just so you don't see the little light on the instrument cluster.

take it back to the Tire store. With the age of the sensors, the batteries might be dead, or the programming dropped for some reason

The sensors were working before the new tires were put on. Now when I turn on the truck, the warning light blinks for a while before it stays on. When I look at the tire pressure screen, all I see for the pressure is "---". As for the sensors, I was not aware that there were a single AND dual band sensors. Learn something new everyday!

    Thanks for the advice everyone
