I learned things everyday...
I learned that even highly educated professionals can be wrong in what they know and dumbass like me can get lucky to be correct in things sometimes.

 

I've learned sometimes it's not what you say, it's what you don't say

 

I've also learned that my coworker may be losing it. He thinks I don't know what I'm doing and I just started working here. He'll bring me something from the lathe that needs holes drilled or whatever and explain to me what size they are and how to do it. I just had to tell him to lay it down and I'll figure it out because I have no patience


It's 4 drilled and countersunk holes My 11 year old son can figure this one out

 

It serves its intended charm.

Can't win.

If I don't medicate, my nose runs, I cough and have a headache.

If I do medicate, I feel light headed and dizzy.

 

Just make sure you read the rules of working with those tolerances or it will drive you crazy. Back in the day when I designed shafts and gearboxes the machine shop hated me. It got to the point that I just let the shop foreman fix my drawings and he would send me a note and I would revise accordingly. He would say "Just because it can be done, does not mean it needs to be done." I always liked that quote and I learned a ton from that high school dropout. He was smarter than most people. You knew you were in for a lesson when he started a sentence with "You know, I didn't finish high school, but..." and then came the lesson lol. He smoked three packs a day of Lucky Strikes and was around 62 when I worked with him. We stayed in touch over the years until I got a letter from his wife saying he had been killed in an auto accident. Lost control on an icy road. He was around 80 when he died. He wife told me that I was his favorite dumbass. Yeah, times were different 35 years ago lol.
Hey @six5crèéd our machine shop was in Rural Retreat VA. You close? We built tons of hydraulic cylinders and fabbed the gear box cases. Gear sets would come from Fairfield and be assembled in our shop.

 

He brought a sprocket over here he bored out and explained to me the holes were drilled almost all the way through but had a smaller hole at the bottom. I said are they countersunk on the other side? He said yes. I said the part you are talking about doesn't matter. Someone just didn't drill it all the way through, they stopped short.

He then said he made a sketch of it, the hole size he put on the sketch is a 1/16 less than the actual part

 

Just looked it up, 1 1/2 hours from Rural Retreat to my house.

This sprocket is like a tire with the steel wires sticking out of it, they got the good out of it.

 

I am working on it. I try to learn better English so I won’t hurt people’ feeling in the conversation.
I also learned that it’s not just the communication, it’s an art.

That sounds like a challenge needing to be issued to him... I mean it will keep him outta your way for awhile
