Yeah, that's the tall version, also good but too tall for what I'm interested in. I would have a stove and a little wash basin inside but I'd rather not have a blackwater/greywater tank and all that. Still would try my absolute best to keep it as light as possible.

I think I'd rather just give up the hobby first to be honest, that type of thing is too much of a compromise, it cuts out a lot of my interests.

It would be weird to see the build go in that direction but I'd definitely still watch

We will see, that Dolphin I posted is actually for sale in WA so I am going to see if a buddy wants to go with me to claim it. I just finished a project so the timing is good actually.

How would you handle the cab pass-through while still keeping the option to go back to your bed? Or would you just glass over the front of the camper body?

Also, good on you if you get one for cheap. Anything that can be described with the words "Toyota" and "overland" is money in these parts. This one's in nice shape but the rough ones I've seen weren't much cheaper.

The one I posted is $1000, so cheap enough to give a shot. And yeah I'd just glass the front up solid

Not having much luck finding the specific dolphin I'm looking for... but that's okay. Think I'm going to buy the spool gun for my MIG welder... bring the TIG welder home (my buddy keeps it at his shop) and make the camper I want instead. Once I have the width and mounting positions plotted as well as the cab height I can do the rest without the truck in the shop so it doesn't have to be down for any real time. I don't usually work with aluminum but what better time to learn.

Yeah similar, more inline with what that guy from Overland and Under Budget built. I am going in favor of a straight vertical pop up rather than a wedge though. Tall guys don't like when things rapidly get shorter...

That'll be one hell of a project. Should be fun.

My brother is making a GFC style knock off for his truck. But he can't weld will see how that turns out..

I suppose you could do it with aluminum extrusions and bolted junctions, but I'd fear for how that would hold up in a dynamic environment. What kind of truck does Grant have now?

Nissan Frontier. He got rear end in the 4runner during a blizzard on a mountain pass. Wanted a 2nd gen tacoma but didn't have the budget for one with under 150k miles.

Yeah I get that, though the plus side is that in theory that would be easier to replace a section than welded aluminum that tends to crack apart. That was Super Pacifics thinking to with using the rivets vs welding. And GFC is now all bolted together extrusions. Only one that went into it with full welding was Vagabond or whatever and they died a death anyways. Think Jerry picked up the outstanding orders. Not sure on that.

I'm hoping that since mine would be a skinned frame that the skin provides a bit of support as well. Gonna spend some time on the bench relearning to TIG, I'm pretty okay with mild and stainless but alum I have trouble managing heat.

That's cool! I'll be heavily inspired by his but I'm going to include a bit extra width and I'd like to do external storage a bit different. I've started knocking something together in SolidWorks. I'm rusty though haha
