Hey yall, I’m new here. So I lost all audio in my truck. Head unit still works like it always has, just no audio is coming out at all.

Got my buddy to run a scan on it and it’s coming back with two error codes.
U0163 Lost Communication with navigation control module
B150A Lost communication with HMI - LAN

I’ve checked the fuses for the radio and ACC. Both are good. I’ve reset the head unit and issue is still there.
Any suggestions to getting the issue fixed?

I am not intimately familiar with this issue, but:
"U0163: This code means that the Navigation Control Module (NCM) and other control modules on the vehicle are not communicating with each other. The circuit most often used to communicate with is known as Controller Area Network bus communications, or simply put, CAN bus.
Typically the causes for this code to set are:
Open in the CAN bus + circuit
Open in the CAN bus - circuit
Short to power in either CAN bus circuit
Short to ground in either CAN bus circuit
No power or ground to NCM module
    Rarely - faulty control module"

The second fault is related to the first: "After the combination meter assembly receives a registration information signal, which is sent by the navigation receiver assembly when the ignition switch is ACC, 1 or more times, the combination meter assembly cannot receive the signal for 30 seconds or more."

I was not able easily to find out the location / wiring diagram for the CAN bus circuit or NCM (navigation) module. But that's where I would start. If you're not sure which fuse, just check them all, and look for any obvious wiring issues. Other people here are likely more familiar with the tacoma's CAN bus system and can help you.

If the radio still works ie navigation still works and the screens show radio stations and if you insert a CD and it appears to play but no sound then you have a toasted audio amplifier chip. Very common fault with all Toyota radios, the chip sits on the lower main board behind the power plug in. It has an aluminum plate over it and a clip to supposedly hold it against the chip, but there is no thermal paste on these parts to help with the heat transfer hence why the chips burn out.
The chips are fairly cheap but not readily available in North America, only place I have been able to get them from is out of eBay China. Have replaced a few of these but they are not that easy to unsolder for the average person. To have it repaired by an electronics place probably would outway what you could get one from a wrecking yard for, you can use a nav unit from a 2016 to a 2019 but not a 2020 to 2023 as they changed the radio hookups.
