I have read countless threads and talk about ECGS clamshell bushings (on the driver side) when you lift your truck, but I never hear or read anything about the passenger side. is this ball bearing not as important of a replacement, or should both be done at the same time?

I'm new here as well, but what I understand from reading numerous posts, only the drivers side is needed.

Passengerside isn't affected because of the ADD unit and also it having it's own bearing at the end of the housing. The shortness of the D-side inner shaft doesn't help matters either.

Toyota only puts a needle bearing on the driver side
It does not respond well to lateral loads, and it’s always under a lateral load when lifted

Mines been lifted for some time, haven’t replaced any bearings or bushings. Maybe I’ve been lucky. If trouble finds me, then I’ll react.

Can anything bad happen other than vibrations and humming sounds if you don't replace the needle bearing? I've had my lift and mud tires on for a year now and tbh, I can't even tell if I need the ecgs bushing done because there's always a bit of vibration from the loud ass tires, lmao. I got the MTs put on a month after I got the lift and didn't feel any vibrations or humming and I've put it into 4Hi to see if there's a difference.

Bad is subjective but needle bearings fail, will cause premature wear of the CV, potentially damage the diff.

To answer the OP’s original question…There is only one on the driver’s side.

Stock with a camper shell for now.
Learn something new everyday I thought this replacement needed to be done on both driver and passenger side. Good to know for when I do the front end and do it while I’m in there.

    All the things!
If the needle bearing fails and breaks apart, pieces could easily end up in your diff. It's better to replace them when they're in one piece.

It's a very easy job with the proper tools. Not worth ignoring, IMO.

from what I understand there is a needle bearing on both sides, the difference is the passenger side has a bearing on one end that takes most of the load/force which is why the passenger side doesnt have the same issues as the driver side.
